Hey guys, looking to get my first wakeboard boat. Just started last year on our cruiser boat we had and now want to upgrade a little this year. Didn't want o go crazy since I'm still new and found a 2000 21v rider edition for sub 10k. Went and looked at it. Feels solid, all gauges work, trailer in good shape, new brakes and tires. Fresh water boat. 2 small tears and little faded cushions, ( not to worried about that.) taps but no ballast which I would be adding. With this year boat do you know of anything that is a problem, or something that seems to act up on these that I need to be aware of. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Potential issues:
Metcraft tower
Wood floor
Wood stringers
Wood seat backs
Taps pump(those years are prone to failure and not a cheap repair)
Crap vinyl
Then general other boat issues that any boat of that age could have. Sub 10 for that boat is a good deal if its solid. Most will agree that the quality of those years wasn't very good. I had a few buddies with Tige's of that vintage and they are rattle traps. But like I said, for sub $10K you can't really go wrong if it is solid(as it can be) and runs well. -
V-Drive under 10k that has a functioning motor would be a deal around here. Under 10k seems kinda sketchy, but if it checks out, it could be awesome.
If it has a tower, it's most likely the Metcrap. Plan on replacing it right away. No ballast is good thing. It would have been crap anyways. I be willing to bet it has a 350 mag. I'd also bet it could use a new prop. Probably a steering cable. For that price it probably has never had anything replaced in it.
I'd actually disagree with boardman on the quality issue. They might not have had the best fit and finish is some areas but the quality of the hull was better than most anything of that period. I shopped out every boat I could and the Tiges were stronger than all of them. Built like tanks. A properly maintained Tige of that vintage is still better than a lot of the boats being put out now. Rattles can be fixed. Cheap hulls cannot.You'll get your chance, smart guy.Comment

Yeah it has a 350 mag. Having mechanic check out the motor, . Tower does have a slight rattle but floors and everything else looks solid.

Sounds like it could be a great deal if it's in good running order. I have a very similar rig just a few years newer. The Metcraft tower hasn't given me any issues I keep all the bolts tight and check them often. I think You're probably looking at a carburetor motor that year but that's not a big deal either. Don't be surprised by regular repair issues such as the steering cable that was previously mentioned. If it's been cared for properly the wood structure in the hull should be no issue, check for soft spots in the floor. The hulls in those days had a lifetime warranty, for a reason.Comment

10K would be a steal if its a solid boat. Post up some pictures of it when you get a chance. I agree with Nickypoo as well. As long as it was taken care of they are very solid boats. Motor, Trans, V-drive, and stringers will be the main concern. My vinyl is all original and except for the rear seat tuck coming loose (where everyone steps) its in perfect shape, same goes for my brothers 01. Again all depends on how well it was taken care of. I cant remember what gages that year had but if they are the VDO gages the faces tend to pop off. Just replace the gage, easy and pretty cheap fix. The TAPs relays tend to be more of a problem than the pump, but still not bad to fix especially for a bout under 10K.Comment

Paid $17.5 for mine last year so again, if that price is legit that's a heck of a steal.
Lee can chime in but don't be too skurred of the wood in the boat. I thought I remember Lee or someone mentioning they used a specific type of wood in the floor that was guaranteed for life?Comment

I have still NEVER seen in all of my life as Talltigeguy anyone show me a Tige with wood stringers that went bad. Anyone?
I think Tige finally went away from it because of negative public perception and when the cost of non-wood stringers started to be cost effective.Be excellent to one another.Comment

I'm not sure why everyone makes a big deal about the wood. Tige has a lifetime warranty on these hulls. If they thought they could get 10 years out of the wood, they would have warrantied them for that long. I heard they have had no warranty repairs yet. The wood is a non issue.Comment

While the outer veneer shows a little beat down, the core layers are perfect. They are just raw marine ply. No varnish, no oil, nothing. Just left out in the snow, rain, wind and sun.
