2005 Tige 22V blown head gasket with 370 hrs

I'm still looking to join team Tige...
I've found a 2005 22v for sale at what seems to be a decent price but wanted to run it by you guys (experts) before driving 3 hours to look at it.
Owner says at 370 hrs the head gasket blew and it has been completely repaired by a professional mechanic. Newly redone engine has 10 hours on it. Selling because they are moving and can't take it with them.
The only other issue claimed by the owner is the obvious bad condition of the upholstery on the rear bench (see pics).
Anybody see anything else in these pics that could be a bad sign of anything. What could've caused the head gasket to blow with only 370 hrs on it? Seems kinda low to me.
I can't tell for sure but it looks like the exhaust manifolds may have a little corrosion or something going on. Anybody have thoughts on this?
Lastly where is the diagnostics port located on this boat? If I go look at it I am going to take my scanner and see if there are any codes showing.

    Cheers

10 years can rust out a gasket regardless of engine hours and you can run an engine hot in its first hour of use.

Thanks chpthril .... Any thoughts on the corrosion on the exhaust manifold. Is that normal?

was the boat used in Saltwater? it almost looks like salt deposits.

The current owner claims to have only used it in freshwater and has owned it for the past two summers. Is saltwater use a deal breaker?

So if he only used it or owned it for 2 years you do not know the history before that. Only word of mouth. An OBD2 scanner does not work on these boats if that is what you have. The deposits look like salt to me. Saltwater use is a problem if not cared for properly. Where is the boat located and where did the seller buy it from? That may give you an idea as to where it was used. The upholstery is bad. Looks to have been left outside and not covered. 3 hours to dive for the "right" deal is not too far. Others here have driven much further than that. Clear across the country as a matter of fact. If you are serious about the boat go look at it. But by all means take it out for a test drive on water. Look at other areas and the trailer for salt use and the general care the previous owners have done. Figure in the cost of Upholstery because it does not come cheap and you will for sure want it done. Pictures do not always tell the true story. Tell us a price and we can probably tell you if it is a fair price or to stay clear.

I think I could get it for 20k with 2 wakeboards, a surfboard, 4 sacs, and some ropes and vests. Boat is in TN but picture shows it was previously registered in TX

What's a rough estimate to have the rear bench recovered? Also what's a Bimini gonna run me?

1500 for the upholstery and 500-900 for a Bimini depends how crazy you get with it. Not a deal breaker, on the motor if that is in fact salt. Especially if for the last 2 years it was ran in fresh water. 20k for that boat would be worth a hard look at it. Pending a lake test, watch the temps never over 175 on temp for that motor if it is feel the exhaust riser if they are not equally Warm, i.e. One significantly hotter than the other something is going on in there...walk away scratch that RUN away with your money. Lots of boats out there.

PS Waksman has it right I drove stealth cowboy to SD from CA to buy his boat. So if you find the right one...may not always be right down the street. Drove 8 hours for mine.

Looks like Denver Broncos colors. Depending on your preferences, that might be a bad thing.

I do not see a cruise control on it, which is hard to live without once you have it. Maybe I am missing it? Given the condition of the upholstery, I bet trailer tires have been sitting in the sun forever too and may be rotted, plan on that as one of your expenses.
                    Be excellent to one another.

Yeah... I confirmed it does not have perfect pass so I am already factoring that into my decision

If you make it as far a lake test check all the gauges and switches. As has been mentioned it looks to obviously have been left out uncovered, this can be hard on a boat between the elements and critters. You will find that it is the all the little things that add up and can equal a large amount. Boats are already moneypits, no need to assist with that. Last thing you want is a boat anchor, not being able to spend time out on the lake enjoying the boat considering the amount you just paid. As far as distance, not an issue for the right boat. Unfortunately, between boats, horses and trucks I have spent many hours on the road only to find out that what was advertised was not close to the real thing. I myself drove 10 hours one way to pick up my boat. You also need to be disciplined that if it is not a good deal to walk when you go that far. It is nice to be able to have something else to do while there so you don't feel like you have to get it so it wasn't a wasted trip.

One thing you can do, is have them facetime as you do a thorough walk around and lake test prior to you going, if they are willing. This can give you a better piece of mind.

You can also see the oxidation in the boat, depending on the extent it might need a light wet sanding that if you don't do it could cost a bit.

That boat has seen some sun.. based on that transom pic and the amount of oxidazation on the orange, I'm guessing that the whole boat is gonna need hours of polishing.. All the breakers on the helm are missing their black rubber covers, I'm assuming the sun shredded them, which would point me straight to rubber speaker surrounds.. How do they look? May just be me, but I've never seen a throttle lever like that in a Tige so that could be an attempt to fix something. Fine if it works, but make sure the taps switch works and actually moves the plate.. That interior is on the worse end of the scale of any I've ever seen, those pieces in the pic are gonna need new foam too, not just a re-skin. I would imagine by looking at those that the rest of the seams throughout the boat are either toast or within a couple times of being sat on and gone. I would take that pic to a local upholstery shop and get a rough guess on total interior replacement.. That's just some superficial stuff I see from a quick look here. I would have the seller send a ton more photos before I drove three hours to look at it. Maybe even a video or two of the electrical system working and it running on a fake a lake or something like it. If he really wants to sell it, that shouldn't be a problem. All that being said, if the seller proves it runs and let's you test drive and everything works and checks out... I've never been accused of being afraid of a project and everything I've listed above is bargaining power in my eyes.....

Hour meters on a boat are like ODOs on the 70s cars, they don't mean much... easily disabled so I wouldn't trust it.

I look at that boat as ridden hard, put away wet. The dash gauges look a bit sun damaged as well. If you put $5k or so into it, maybe it would be a sweet boat. To me the wild card is the blown head gasket. Did it lose an impeller? My hunch would be yes, it doesn't look like the owner was one who cared about maintenance (or at least taking great care of the boat). What else was not take care of beside the vinyl and engine.

And the color to me would be a non starter... just saying.
