    2001 2300V Price?

Hey everybody.... Been following this board for awhile now while trying to find a Tige I can afford.

I stumbled across a 2001 2300V for sale in my area with ~300 hrs on the original 330hp Black Scorpion engine. What do you all think this might be worth? Ad says everything is working good and it has a matching tandem trailer w/ brakes. Pictures show it to be in good shape... Looks to have been stored inside all its life.
has PP, custom cover, and TAPS

Anything in particular to watch out for with this year/model?

It looks like it has the original tower which I've read should be replaced... any thoughts other than that?

I'm mainly looking for a good older Surf boat and I've read that this model made a pretty good wave. Anybody care to weigh in?

    Thanks.

Check the floors and stringers for any soft spots. Run it on land and check for leaks in the motor. Run it on the water and check for leaks in the hull. When on the water, find some rough water. If you can't find any, make some in order to "check out the rough water ride". That will make the tower shake and you can give the owner a nervous look that says, "Ya, no good. That thing has to go."
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Thanks Nick. Any advice about the average remaining life on the Engine (of course assuming it has been well maintained)?

Love my 2300v! Great wave out of a budget boat. If its the original Metcraft tower you might be able to use that to reduce the price as they are pretty wobbly and known to fail. Also what Nickypoo said. I would shoot for $20K. Engine if well maintained should have many hundreds of hours left.

Average life span of a 350 chevy is in the 1500-2000+ hour range if properly maintained. At 300 hours you have a lot of life ahead.

You may want to look into the hours though. Thats a computer controlled motor so you should be able to plug in and verify. I say that because a 2001 with only 300 hours is averaging just 20 hours a year. Either she was a trailer queen which can lead to its own set of problems or the hours are off. I had my worst year of boat ownership in my adult life last year(divorce, new job, kids sports, injury, etc) and still mustered over 25 hours and it felt like we never used the boat!! An average of 20 per year seems uber low!

^^^ Correct. That is super low hours. It's not scary low though. I only put 25 or so on my boat last year. Of coarse our lakes were all dried up last year so...

I only average about 40 hours a year on mine. I'm still under 600. It runs perfectly. So long as it's run a little every year it should be fine. If it sat for many years, then it's an issue. Always good to scan it.

Great feedback guys. Will a regular obd2 scanner work on this boat... I'm coming from the world of carbureted I/O boats so none of my boats have ever had the ability to attach a scanner. If so, I have a scanner and will take it with me... Care to help me with where I can find the OBD2 port on this boat?

Here's a pic from the ad. Could y'all tell me if this is the metcraft tower or not? I have only read the horror stories but I haven't actually found any pictures that I can for sure tell are showing the metcrap tower to help me identify it.
Since the tower says Tige on it I am assuming it is the stock tower (metcraft)?

That's not the really bad Metcraft but still a Metcraft. That is a revised design that was definitely better. Still, it's not a great tower by any means.

I don't believe that's the tower that folks recommend avoiding.

I also have a 2001 2300V. Got it a little over 2 years ago & it's been a great boat. Mine does have the Metcraft tower with the bad reputation. It doesn't make any noise or seem unstable on the lake, though, so maybe I just got lucky. It has cracked at one of the junctions where the smaller hand-grab area (for lack of a better term) connects to the larger tower. It was an easy fix and the welder added some reinforcement while fixing it. It looks like a prior owner also did some reinforcing so maybe that's why mine seems ok.

I bought the boat in the off season from a motivated seller and it needed lots of work. I paid $16K, then put a little over $10K in new vinyl, cover, brakes, ballast, transmission seals, etc. Assuming yours doesn't need all that stuff, then the current blue book value of around $23,000 seems about right. Of course, that seems to vary a lot based on where you live.

Here's a picture that shows the OEM tower from that year:

I can testify that it will have a good rough water ride. It's a long, heavy boat with a relatively deep v (for a v-drive). It does great on Lake Powell.

                      Good luck!

that boat is a tank in rough water no worries there. spent some time behind matt Garcia's old one on here. the blue one in the photo looks a lot like matt's old ride.

^^^That is a version of the dreaded Metcrap but still not the earliest. I had the earliest version on my boat and it was HORRIBLE. It didn't have the extra bars on the rear legs.
