There was actually a service bulletin on this and it had to do with the alternator...Had this happen on my boat for years until I replaced my alternator... Now I get a little bit of dust but nothing like it used to be. I also spent a little more money on a nicer belt. Anyhow, check out the service bulletin and see if the serial number matches for your motor.. It did for mine. I used to always tear one rib of the belt off too.... I guess they added a little spacer to give it the lift it needed to get the pulleys aligned properly.. I know this is old but just incase someone needed the information.
