Nicky, I think its a good recommendation. When I ordered my FAE for the 22i, I just told them model and year of my Tige. No measurements were needed. If someone did the same and had the Wake9 Taps plate, they might be hosed because IIRC the Wake9 plate is larger than the stock TAPs plate. Granted, they should have realized that when making the order - but as the saying goes.... Common sense aint common! A friendly reminder isnt a bad thing.

I wasn't aware they were a custom build. But thanks for letting me know with your standard level of tact and courtesy. Just trying to help a buddy here.

I was just curious. Don't read too far into it. I wasn't aware that Robert has custom plates. Or not?
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Ain't that the sad truth. Like I said, I didn't know Robert had custom plates. Figures.

Man, I can't imagine not slapping a tape on the boat just to check. I'm glad it worked out for you but that would freak me out. I guess that's just me though. Hell, when I bought my tower, I took the boat down to them (2hrs away) so that they could build it to the boat. I like my custom stuff to be super tight the first time. They say measure twice, cut once. I'm more of a measure thrice kinda guy.

Truth be told - I should have used common sense myself and measured just in case. I'm usually pretty good about that kinda stuff, just dropped the ball and was fortunate enough that it worked out.

Ya, there is typically no measuring required when ording FAE. You tell them what boat/year/single or dual exhaust and they know what to provide you. If you have changed a taps plate then yes, that would be on you to mention.

I measured both my TAPS plates. The Wake9 version is 9" long while the factory plate is 8.5". That half inch shouldn't make a big difference. However I think the "gain" (for lack of a better term) of the Wake9 plate is increased. It travels higher and lower. So it is possible that could interfere. You likely have to try it to be sure. So Travis - you can be the guinea pig

Is there a wake9 taps option somewhere or is it something that has to be done custom?

I agree it could make a difference in a final measurement. I know my plate comes right up to the bottom of the FAE elbows. Another 1/2" would likely make contact. The final throw of the plate is still something that should be measured from one boat to the next.

He would like to have an idea on numbers so he can work out a production schedule.

Looks like 10+ are in. Is the deal on.

This is a custom taps plate from Wake9. They did a bunch of testing to eliminate spray coming from the Vx tunnel. They actually put a gopro in the tunnel to document it. So the revised plate is a touch longer, a lot wider, and tapered more to match the shape of the tunnel. It is also stronger.

You could also adjust the mounting point such that the movements were amplified.

I believe (not 100% sure on this) that Tigé took the new design and started putting it (or something like it) on the AVx boats. As such Wake9 stopped production on it.

There's likely only ten of us out there with one of these custom plates.

Perhaps in years past that was the case, but last year when I ordered mine the were several measurements I had to send in to them-distance between the exhaust outlets, verify length of trim plate, etc. granted mine was the new one piece with polished welds, but the form & instructions for measuring looked like it was pretty standard.

One of the best upgrades & even with the extra options was cheaper than a cover or a single swivel board rack!!!

Ok guys. I just got back in from a trip and have reliable internet again. I see that we have over ten responses so far. Excellent to all you are wanting to order.

I will contact FAE and tell them we the ten need for the better price break. He probably will post here or let me know how he wants to proceed with the ordering.

Thanks for all the interest. I know for one I will be happy with the price and the quieter boat. However I still love the roar of my dual exhaust coming from my 360 HP engine.

I guess The FAE Thread worked out.

Your boat will still sound good on the trailer.
