    First Tige, First Wake boat....

So I am looking at upgrading our lake experience and we are ready to jump into wake surfing! We are looking at Tige specifically and have eyes on two different options at our dealer. Comparison is a couple of 2015 (New) RZR, fully loaded with Convex AVX or TAPS3. Alternative is a modestly equipped R21 with TAPS3. All are priced between 58-63k - pretty close that I would think be negotiable to an even out the door price.

As a newbie, the differences I can see are mostly superficial - RZR looks awesome...R21 is noticeable larger, more ballast, dealer was really pushing me to this one.

Would love some input our things you think I should consider coming from someone besides the sales guy!

    Thank you!

I would go r21 all the way because I would want the bigger hull/boat. I have never regretted getting a bigger boat.

What engine is n both boats? Personally, if budget is a driving factor, I would rather have a larger boat with a more modest trim level, then a smaller boat with bling. I would also go TAPS-3 over AVX.

The R21 is a sweet boat, priced right for the trim level. The tube tower on the R21 is a little taller than the AlphaZ Tower on a Z1 (same hull as the R21) so it must be noticeably taller than on the RZR. The R21, as mentioned is the EXACT same hull as the Z1, which puts out a great surf wave. Unless they changed it, the R21/Z1 hull is slightly sensitive to weight distribution from side to side for a clean wakeboard wake, not sure on the RZR hull. We had a Z1, traded it - sold that boat and I am now closely watching the R21 w/TAPS 3 and will be riding behind one as soon as we can get on the water. If you are looking for opinions I say R21 all the way. We compared the RZR and the Z1 and after walking through the boat, especially the walk through area, the wider hull is much more comfortable. Tough decision, best of luck.

Whatever boat you choose I would go with TAPS 3! Just went out on ours and it is a game changer, being able to switch from goofy to regular in seconds along with cleaning up the wave with the push of a button was amazing! For me we decided to go with the bling, even though the hulls are the same from the R series to Z series the extra bling really makes the boat. Having the tige touch 2 with all the options is pretty amazing and the alpha Z tower is attractive and nice to have. I was also just weary on having a touch screen with no analog gauges with the R21, made me a little uneasy with water and electronics. With that being said I don' think you can go wrong if you get the bigger boat with TAPS 3 and the surf XL ballast and maybe cut out the bling as those are just nice options to have when your paying that much. Good luck and happy surfing!

RZR is standard with the Raptor 400
            R21 Standard is the 360R

the upgrade is about 2 grand, but the 400 gets you a 5 year warranty vs 3 years.

              Thanks for the great feedback.

Chpthril - the motor comp is an Indmar 360 on the R21 vs Raptor 400 on the RZR.

The bling on the RZR is amazing...My wife loves The RZR simply for the look that all of that extra stuff provides. I like the bling but really I want to make sure I'm getting good wave for this big chunk of cash. I don't want to get out there and be looking cool in the boat but missing out behind it...At the same time, since the boss is approving this and likes that RZR, I need to make a major case that the R21 is something we need.

Anyone able to directly compare the two - plus / minus of what we would be playing with? What can't I do on the RZR that I could do on the R21?

              Appreciate everyone's feedback!

the R21 is a bigger boat, thats just it. You have more ballast and with a bigger hull you should see a bigger wave. the performance of the R21 would be identical to that of the Z1.....if she likes the RZR and you like the R21...sounds like you need a Z1. Interestingly enough the cost on them can be pretty close if you watch your options.

Couple thoughts from a former RZR owner:
-If you can get a new rzr with taps 3 for 63k I would go that route. I absolutely loved mine and the surf wave was really good before taps 3.
-The diamond tower and alpha z tower are about the same height themselves on the same boat.
-As for size, the beam is wider on the r21 but the bow on the RZR is more useful.
-Where do you live? I doubt the 360 will get the job done if you are at altitude with the boat loaded with weight.
-The control you have with the newer touch screen on the rzr is awesome.

That's what I was thinking, even being a 2015 I didn't think you could get into base rzr for under 70k.

It looks like the Indmar 360 is still a 6.2L... Is that right?
                          Under specs it says:
                          6.2L Indmar 360R Engine

Does that mean its a detuned Indmar 400?

                            correct, same block de tunned.

old style heat exchanger, and no strainer as standard. Also has a 3 year vs the standard 5 year warranty

I am a new owner of the R21 and love it! The surf wave is sick and the motor seems to have plenty of power. I haven't got behind it on a wakeboard yet but plan on it this weekend! I have never rode in the RZR so don't know how they compare but I would recommend taking your wife out on both (with a surfboard) and testing them both!
