Help with question on first Tige

Like the title say we are buying our first Tige. There are some questions that i cannot find answers to anywhere that i was wondering if someone here could answer for me. We are looking at 2 different boats we have to stay at 20 ft and under 3500 lbs due to our slip we rent so i am looking at the 2015 line either the r20 or rzr leaning towards the r20 just for price and the fact that i am not sold on tige touch. here are the questions i was wondering if you could answer for me.

    1. Tige touch has there been any problems with the technology? ( repairs breaking life expectancy/ warrant on the touch unit )
    2. one of the boats i am looking at does not have the convex vx can that be added after the fact on a 2015 or does the swim platform have to be replaced to get it? prices?
    3. Vector tower how high is it when it is folded down off the back of the boat? ( seen a video that ragboy did at a boat show just does not give a great idea it still looks really high when folded down)
    4. also looking for some suggestions on beginner cheap surf boards and some cheap kids boards. the ones i found are ronix odyssey for kids and cwb bentely these would just be starter boards remind you until we figure out what we like

    thanks john

Tige Touch has been very robust. I haven't heard of many issues relating to it. It does have a 5 year warranty if you buy new. I'm not entirely clear if you are buying a new boat or a used one.

If you are going to retrofit a VX (which can be done in some great pain), I would suggest you save your money and buy a Go Surf Assist (GSA). Google it.

I can't help with the other two questions.

      So:

      1. Tige touch I've had good luck with in the last year and a half.
      2. I didn't know VX was still an option. The AVX would be require some work to add after the fact.
      3. Can't help
      4. Buy one board if the kids fit the same size and then see what you like. There are a ton of boards, its like being in a candy store once you start to know what you want. We still use a beater CWB RZR to teach newbies on.

      Good luck!

you cannot buy avx or vx after the fact. unless you find someone who has one. not from tige. I was looking when I was considering same boat.

The Phase 5 Scamp would be my first choice for the kids wakesurf.

TAPS-3 is back-compatible to 2015, right? If I was going to spend money on a surf enhancement thats not ballast, it would be TAPS-3

Taps 3 is backwards compatability to 2015 but I think the R20 doesn't have the Taps 3 software via touch screen until 2016 models. I could be wrong. Rest of the line for 2015 is good to go.

Yeah I thing you are right, the R20 would not have the Murphy viper control for the TAPS-3, but also would not have the means to work the AVX either. Right?

I understand that the taps-3 is able to be installed on the RZR.

Another consideration is the the Vx (or AVx for that matter) is narrower on the 20 footers since they are a narrower boat. So even if you found a Vx laying in the woods, it would not likely be a fit for your boat.

Again look for a different option if you have the money to spend.

Your hunch is right: the tower folds but isn't much lower. There are actually 2 hinge points but even with the top folded too, you don't save much height. Folding it requires removal of 2 (or 4) bolts. The folded tower lies awkwardly on the rear sun pad. It's sort of a 2 person job, and I so much wasn't looking forward to folding or erecting it every time out that I built my boat canopy a little taller and now just back the boat under it.

I can measure for you if it's important.

I can only comment on the board choices, kids board scamp - this will work great for kids 5-12, for your board don't cheap out buy a highend board right out of the gate. If you were to add up the boards bought with my neighbours and I we probably have 30 boards between us but how many boards are used out of those 30......2, the Carbon Thruster and the Danielo Diamond (not the pro) both are big bucks but why by low to mid and then a year later buy what works. I'm sure there are some other great boards out there that we haven't tried but from all the ones we have tries I'd be hard pressed to find a better 2. Or even better yet buy a scamp for the kids, Carbon Thruster and DD and your boat is set as the Thruster is a surf style but fast and the DD is a skim board for spins + only having 3 boards in a boat at one time is a plus.

                            ^^^Yup.

Having a good, fast board right out of the gate will be worth it. Struggling on a slow POS all summer is a waste of time and fuel. Check the forums, Craigslist and what not for used or close out stuff. $800+ for a stick is spendy.

Would love a picture if it is not to much trouble
