    Outdoor storage?

How many of you store your boat outside? We just picked up a 2016 Z1, and would like to build an out building on our property. However, this might not happen until the fall. So for the owners that store outside did you get a custom mooring cover made? Any tips/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I hate to leave the boat outside exposed to the Texas sun and weather.

    Thanks

Have you considered renting a storage unit as a temporary solution until you can get your building put up? If you have the space, you could also purchase one of these DIY carport kits just to keep your boat under cover. I know that this really does not answer your question about outdoor storage, but these may be some options that keep your new baby out of the sun until you get your out building put up.

Yes, certainly considering renting temp storage. I have gotten a few quotes right now for outbuildings, haven't looked into carports. I feel like that wouldnt be a wise investment as it would most likely come down when the outbuilding goes up. Thanks for the response!

I've always stored mine outside - in Canada no less! I found the worse part was actually rain during the summer. The covers are woefully inadequate and the boat always gets soaked. As a result I built a big "boat-port" along the side of my garage.

Winter was easy, as I could tarp it up with great success.

However summer it got soggy, then sweaty. It would stink.

A temporary structure would also work in the meantime. It sorta depends how much wind you get.

How high did you go? From the research I have done, seems like the Z1 with Alpha Z tower will fit under a 10' door but was thinking I'd build the outbuilding with 12'x10' doors but ofcourse that comes with a greater cost.

Have you thought about a permanent carport... Probably cheaper than an out building. Even simpler than johnniemo's would be to pour yourself a slab as wide as you want with a couple of 4-5 foot pony walls down each side, concrete, blocked, or framed.. Get one of the DIY carports and bolt to the top of the walls. Around my neck of the woods they can be bought starting around $700 +/-... Quicker and cheaper to start and you can always remove the carport down the road and build your permanent framed structure/out building..

This should cost you less than $500. It's the "heavy duty" model. I raised it by about a foot so that I can just back my R20 under it without folding the tower. It was originally 30 feet long but I've shortened it to 24'. I've anchored it solidly into the driveway and it has easily withstood this winter (Pacific North West).

              Cheers,

If you want the best cover out there take a look at Evolution Covers....

Corey is a super nice dude however it will take a while to get it made...

Carports are cheap starting at $700. You can add higher sides and also add more metal to cover the sides and ends. Inside storage is best as that will keep it nicely in the heat and cold. In the sun a good cover will still only last a few years and then you will be buying another. More money spent. In my shop I found roll up doors were the same price for either 10x10, 10x12 and 12x12. Guess what I used? When you consider the cost of a place for proper storage compared to the cost of that new boat the cost of a shop, shed, garage, lean-to, carport or other inside storage option is cheap.

                    Sorry I missed your reply.

My boat is 9'2". The boat port is built to about 9'6". 10' should handle any Tigé outside of maybe an RZX.

On my garage I did a 9' door but if I want the boat in there I will lower the tower. It's not something I will do often.

Side note on the carport.... I did a vaulted ceiling as you can see. That means I can put a large ceiling fan up there to dry the boat out. If you are new to boating you'll soon realize the boat gets soggy. A fan will be your best friend.

I can also throw in hooks and shelves to put life jackets, boards or even the boat cover itself. You don't think about these little things before you get in to a surf boat.

                        Outdoor storage?

I think we decided on doing a 30x20x10 3 sided carport, so my truck and the boat will fit. Hoping to get going on it this week.

uploadfromtaptalk1462486876174.jpg I've been building this for a few years. Started as carport, then concrete and the sides. Added power last fall and today finally got a functional garage door. I decided to do it in steps so i could pay as I go. Opening is 11ft high , 18 wide.
