Keep or trade up? Trip to boat show, 22ve vs Z3

We just bought a 2016 z1 for about that price otd. So that is a good deal for a z3.

Nobody has brought this up yet so I will. If your gonna spend that kind of money just make sure it is exactly what you want from colors to speakers. I know that price is probably for the particular boat but in the grand scheme a couple bucks more to get exactly what you want is worth it

I wrestled with this same choice regarding trade of our 2009 RZ2. But I realized I loved my current boat, I have an awesome wave, and TAPS3/switch was not worth $50k.

Also, when we bought the bought, the plan was to keep it for at least 10 years. It is pristine and looks new and surfs well. We will see what technology is like in 2019 ...

As a few others have said. Your 09 will definitely put up a wave. This is my 09 with Mike's custom sac (1200lbs) that is running about 1650lbs in total ballast plus people weight. I have ridden any other boats to see what they can produce but I'm happy with mine. I'm about 225lbs myself and can ride with my son on the board as well which pushes us over 250lbs easily. I had extra ports added to the bag so I'm currently running dual fill and dual empty on 1" lines with one port ready for a cross over at a later date as I currently only have one custom bag. I only have a few goofy riders that are mostly the wives so I have 2-400lbs sacs plumbed together for that side.

I have said that I would like the z3, but I am completely happy with the wave on the 22ve. chp's bags make ALL the difference in the wave and he can get you a pretty quick transfer with added pumps and all the wiring and support to make it happen. not 3seconds, but a quick transfer nonetheless and from a long term prospect, not having all the tigetouch electronics will make the boat simpler to maintain. I would think that the boat, valued where it is today, will not lose that much over the next 3-5 years unlike the z3 so play with that boat for 2 years and if you really miss the added stuff the z3 offers, trade up.

if I could trade mine for a '09 model with the same hull, alpha tower and sans tigetouch, I'd be all over it..

One other thing I wasn't fond of in the Z3 was how the walk through going forward is now full of stuff (cooler, etc) so it's basically a large sun pad. I suppose that works for some, but with a full boat on a cruise, having the ability to sit with feet lower is something I want. The lake I'm on gets rough, having feet down provides balance (or maybe better thought of as ballast low for your body).

I'll take a look but have all the new models put the cooler in the walkway and made it a sun pad area up front?

We went from a 08 RZ2 that we loved to a 15 Z3. We would do it again in a heart beat.

My wife hated the fact that the cooler is now in the walk way. However, over time it has become a favorite place for her to lay down when the kids are swimming in a cove and we are anchored. Plus the cooler is a great place to store ropes, t-shirts, hats and other gear that needs to be accessed quickly. When we have a boat full, the adults are typically in the back while the kids pack into the bow. So the adults have their feet on the deck while the kids are being kids and enjoying the fast ride in the bow. I will never forget the fun of sitting in the bow of a boat with all my friends and cousins cruising across a lake.

The fit and finish of the boat is light years ahead of the 08's. The vinyl is amazing. The seats are all extremely comfortable. The only thing I do not like is the fact that most of the seat cushions are attached. So you really cannot remove easily to clean. The captains chair is extremely comfortable as well. I often find myself hanging out in the chair versus laying on the sun deck when we are chillen. Our 08 was more utilitarian vs. the plush luxurious interior of the new Z3s.

Our 08 RZ2 was fitted out with a complete ballast system from Chpthril/Mike and threw a huge wave. The Z3 wave once I got it figured out (the AVX, TAPS and list make a huge difference in how the wave will push.) it is a much better wave then on our sac'ed out 08 RZ2. Tige's regional manage helped by getting in contact with one of their professional riders and got how they set up the boat. Once I put in her settings the wave was amazing. Both goofy and regular.

If you can afford it and like the colors I would jump all over a Z3 at that price.

Sorry to hear about your friend. That is never easy losing someone that young.

After my mother then a year later a friend passed away we took the same thought process. "You can't take it with you" is now often said in our house. Enjoy the short time you have on this planet.

Across street neighbor found out about her lung cancer at age 37--nonsmoker, actually never-smoker. Anyway, she said to me "go get your new boat." She is doing great thankfully, but she passed the message along loud and clear.

I agree with this, my wife and I in our short 47 years have already missed out on things that we could have done but said or chose, "we'll do it next time" when the opportunity was there. So we are trying to adopt and new mentality, lets do it because we may not have the chance or opportunity in the future. Don't get me wrong, not being reckless or irresponsible but seizing those moments or activities because the future can be uncertain. Whether it be loved ones, friends or chances to visit or see places that hold God's grandeur and beauty. We just did the very decision your in, we're trading in our 22Ve we love for a new Z1 and feel really good about it and look forward to the ease of surfing with the new Taps3 system. Will be nice for me to be able to surf even if it's just the two of us and the pups on the Tige'.

So speaking to the wind chop and large swells in an open lake, my Z3 handles it with ease and you almost have to intentionally dip the front to get water over the bow. Nothing was said on the wake board wake but it is incredible.
