Need help on 2006 22v ballast set up and prop

    Hi All,
I am trying to help a buddy get his 2006 Tige 22V dialed in for wakeboarding and surfing.
I have designed and built several ballast systems but do not have any first hand knowledge about Tige's.
So I was hoping someone that has a similar 22v can give me some guidance on how much weight to put where.

His boat has nothing right now for ballast. It is stripped down. So we are starting from scratch. What I am really looking for is what size fatsacs are people using for the different compartments. Custom or off the shelf. Using any lead weight? Swim deck weight? Different set ups for regular vs goofy? etc

So please share your ballast set up for this boat! And what prop you are using for best performance for boarding or surfing.

    Thanks so much in advance!

I'm sure others will chime in with more info.

I would get with Chpthril he can help design and supply the parts. He can help with the prop as well. Great guy to work with.

X2 on all of the above, and call Acme (231) 796-2874 have the following ready to provide:
        Boat Make/Model
        Engine Displacement
Max RPM if you have it.
Amount of Ballast you will be running w/ people don't include boat weight
Primary use of boat (surf, wake, ski, cruise)
Altitude that you usually operate at.

They will probably give you 2-3 options to choose from (Best Performance, Best Overall, Best Fuel) each have the pros and cons

        Good Luck.

Thank you for the information shared.

Is there not anyone on the forum rocking this exact same boat that can share their exact weight set up and prop?

I have a '06 22ve. I have a fly high w711 in the bow, and a custom L shaped fly high sac in each of the rear corners. The customs weren't cheap, but the surf wave is awesome. I have the stock prop and its working fine for me.

Talk to mike (chpthril), he is the expert.

He took out the rear locker wall. His boat was at Polar Bear one year and was really good.

Mike (MLA) has setup several 22V's and can help get you a custom sac.

                What elevation is your lake(s)?

The 1433 is a good prop for most surfing and boarding with lots o ballast. If you boat at higher elevations, I would maybe consider the 1617. BUT, this assumes that your 06 has the 1.48:1 blue v-drive. If it has the 1:1 black, then 911 all the way.

For a good fit, the Fly high W712 enzo, but for a little more, you can go with a custom. 1200 - 1300 lbs range. Bow weight is going to be optional. The V and Ve both do well with no bow weight, but added can help lengthen the pocket. The W711 is going to be the best for the bow in hidden weight, about 500 maybe.

Speed atleast 10.5 and TAPS 3-5 but this will very as the size of the crew changes and with the skill level of the rider and the board.

Ok now we are getting to the good stuff! Awesome! Thank you everyone!

chpthril our elevation is mostly in the 4500 to 6000 feet range but dropping down occasionally to 3500 for Lake Powell trips.

I will check the gear ratio. Good point. So if I understand it correctly one will be black and the other blue?

I understand that the custom "enzo" style sacs will be optimal for surfing. If I go with some custom "enzo" sacs and only fill them partially for wakeboarding (500-600# per side) will the water slosh around a lot front to back? Would it be better to go with individual sacs in the rear compartments with separate sacs under the side seats if the plan is for 50% wakeboarding and 50% surfing?

Is anyone using strategically placed lead plates or pop bags to really help boost the surf wave?

What about any weight on the swim deck? Duffy are you still using a fat brick on your swim deck?

For surfing will this boat like a lot of lean? All the ballast on one side? Or some counter weight? Sounds like bow weight is optional depending on how long I want the surf pocket and skill of rider.

Just curious.... What is the basic difference between the V and the Ve hulls? Which is "better" for surfing?

That is all the questions for now.

Thanks again for everyone's help! I really appreciate it.

With that elevation, I would likely go with one of the lower pitch props.

There will be a tag with the ration but yes, one is blue and one is black. The ratio is important for getting the right number of blade prop

For those that wake board, folding the sac leg under the main body is the best way to go. Limits the amount the sac will hold with minimal sloshing

Having separate sacs linked gets complicated when trying to plumb them and have a functional and user friendly system. They will typically fill ok, but draining not so well.

yes, lean that bi-atch, no off side ballast.

The wetted surface of the V and Ve are very close. Both produce a great surf wave.

No more fat brick for me. I gave up on it, since it's a pain to deal with.
