    Master Captain's License Discount

I wasn't sure what section to put this in, so I threw it in here. I'll keep it short. I'm about to sign up for my Master Captain's Certification through Mariners Learning System. I noticed they have a really great deal going for a 2 package deal. Would anyone be interested in doing this? Total cost for two is $895. $447.50 each. The same package by itself right now is $715.50. So your looking at a pretty substantial savings. If no-one is interested I'll just buy the single. But thought I'd throw it out there.

Sounds interesting. What are you operating to need that serious of a license?

My family and I are starting up a venue that will host weddings, vacations, retreats, etc. Part of this involves driving some recreational charters / party boats. This license essentially allows you to have more than 6 people on the "charter". It is just a step up from the "6 pack" license. Although the requirements are not much more. I'm also considering throwing my RZ4 in the mix here. I like the idea of renting it out here and there for extra cash. But I don't know if I could just hand the keys over to someone. I'd much rather be driving it myself.

It looks like two of them cost $995?

This is correct. But they are offering a 10% discount code right now (MLSCaptain) which brings it down to $895. Not bad!

If you are going to operate a vessel on a Texas lake without access to ocean, I do not believe that Texas requires a Capt license. Rules and Regs may have changed, but I know that it was not required some 15 years ago.

Everything I have seen appears it is required. But I would love it if it wasn't.
