I have spent three days in the hospital due to a rope...I personally don't think its worth the risk. It happens in the blink of an eye - if that rope gets tangled around your neck, its probably the last thing you will do. Just my

Not worth the risk...are you kidding me. The risk of walking down the street is larger but we all still walk. Live a little for god sakes!
This is the best idea I've seen, we've struggled at getting younger kids up or friends of our kids that give up after 1 or 2 tries. Thanks to whoever made the video, and I can't wait to try this next spring.
Thoughts on what speed/ballast/taps you'd suggest for kids learning so far? I've found kids get scared by the wave on my boat and I'm struggling to find a good learners wave. RZ2 with MLA big bags in each corner and if you ask me the video is great but learning in that type of wash won't be great, especially for pictures as we do our best to take pictures and e-mail to our friends as most have never tried surfing before. Really looking to show a nice wave but not be too big to scare the little ones.

I run the same ballast, and knock the wave way down height wise with TAPS at 0 or 1. Works great thus far. And my wave is not small--it is a serious gangsta lean 24Ve with MLA all over the place. The little buggers don't surf on the wave anyway, they surf in front of it basically--on my wave anyway.

even at taps at zero its too steep and most young kids get scared as they see this monster wave, was really hoping to knock it down by about 50% but when I try less water in the bags its still pretty big + if they can't make it over in time they're stuck up on top and if they try to come down its lights out, which also usually means they won't try a 2nd time.

This is a video of our Summer that has a couple of strategies (shallow water and tube start) for getting kids going. You will see a sea anchor (small bucket behind the tube to keep it straight to the boat). https://youtu.be/aN-UoMVAV8k

We live penty, thank you - and I won't be risking my kids or anyone else's kids lives by draggin a rope behind them trying to teach them to get up.

For the record - I'm sure leaving the tube adrift is a good way for some to get their little ones up. Dragging the tube afterwards just does not seem like a good idea to me...

Sorry to the OP for getting off target...

If you don't mind, what was the circumstances of your injuries? Tube start to surfing, wake boarding, tubing? I understand there is risk in all our outdoor activities and it is our responsibilities to minimize them as best we can. That's one of the reasons I'm pushing surfing so hard on my boat and trying to forget about the other water sports. For us, a tub start is kind of a last resort for a kid that as been struggling all day to get up.

No I don't mind at all - that is the reason I posted. I hope to at least get people to think about it, weather you agree or not. Keeping EVERYONE safe should be our first responsibility. Trust me, when a helicopter comes to get you, its not a good day on the water...

I was NOT surfing....I was wake boarding and I got caught in the rope dragging behind me. It was a stupid mistake on my part in the first place - and it happened before anyone even knew what happened. The handle came through my leg and then through my face. Shattered my nose, broke my cheek bone, broke my jaw, and 15 stitches above my eye. After testing showed my head to be good, the worry was on my leg in regards to blood clots.

Yes it was wake boarding, but the point is the rope dragging behind the rider. As many have mentioned on this forum prior to this thread, the rope coiled in the hand or the rope thrown to the other side can become very dangerous. Along with dragging a tube behind...

That sounds and looks terrible! What were the circumstances where a rope was dragging behind you while wake boarding?was this immediately after a wipeout?

                    Good lord, nasty.

I have had people send me pics of their children as young as 2-3 years old being stabilized by dad off the swim deck behind the boat. My honest opinion is that is way to young to even try. But not my monkey not my circus.....

I would generally think most that really start to try to ride that 5-6 and a little older is best for an actual wakesurfer. There are standing tubes and other more stable, well padded boards which are likely better choices for getting the feel standing on a tow board.

Otherwise, I could cut you a great deal on used Contender or last years Nano, etc.

They are 275 in a bunch of places I think. The Victoria debut grom is 175, and is basically the same thing. The scamp certainly looks neater, but they both work about the same.
