04 Tige 24V Riders Edition Questions

Helping a friend look at a 04 24V RE, we went a looked at the boat and it seems to be in sound condition minus a few little things. Here are the goods:
Gel Coat is Perfect, Extreme Trailer looks good no rust
Phat Buddy Tower (no previous experience with)
MP 315 HP 900 hours (did the math just over 75 hrs a year)
Basic Stereo (not a clarion, no stern remote) in boards are kicker Type R's no sub. Unknown tower Speaker brand X2
Heater (not sure if it works, or if the core is still good)
Ballast (none to speak of)
New Interior being installed now on pieces that needed replaced (few seats and sun deck)
Had a sandbar prop strike in Havasu a few years ago, new prop, prop shaft, V-drive, (skags/rudder are straight) HULL IS CLEAN
Taps2 is working
Steering Cable is free and correct.
1 owner, all annual maintenance done by current dealer, has a good cover (for what its worth)
Had them run the scan tool, no errors or codes, compression check was solid.
Asking is 28K plus cost of upholstery repairs.

Have Not checked
The prop shaft seal to see if it was replaced after the prop strike
Have not physically seen it run, or lake tested (Pending Upholstery Completion)
Belts, Hoses, Seals, Didn't have a chance to really dig into the guts it was pouring rain.

I know the hours are high, but its an 04 which is a 12 year old boat I would be more concerned if it had less than 400. This will be a first boat (EVER) for my buddy, I know its a lot of boat but my though was he could grow into it. Appreciate anyone's assistant with anything I missed.

Some comments below, I have a 2004 Tige 24V Riders Edition. I think the Riders Edition is just a graphics difference but I could be wrong. Thats the only difference I noticed when looking vs the limited edition. I love my 24V and personally think the 22V and 24V are the best surf boats for a budget minded shopper (under 30k). The rear lockers are massive and fit 1800 lb custom sacs with not major mods to make them fit.

Extreme Trailer is pro vs the dorsey trailer I have. Mine has rust and its rides really low and has no rollers on the rear prop guard. I believe the Extreme Trailers always seem to be pretty well built and in decent shape when I have seen them compared to my Dorsey.
Phat Buddy Tower (no previous experience with)
No personal Experience but I have heard good things about the Phat Buddy Towers. Mine has the Tige Tower. Its tall and works well for my use. I do think my bimini is a pain (with Tower speakers its is) and am tempted to replace it with the Monster Cargo bimini. My guess is the phat tower and bimini combo is better than the Tige Tower bimini combo.

Ask Boatwakes/Cory Weber the cost for a block swap on a small block chevy should you need to replace it. Its surprisingly not too bad I would bet. Plus if its maintained well, it should last a long time!

Definitely a PRO not to have the factory ballast. The factory ballast took up all the locker space and was prone to air locking. First thing I did was remove the factory ballast. The only thing I kept was the wiring. Even the switches I replaced with switches that light up when on.

Vinyl from that era had a backing that did not stretch well. The vinyl shop I took mine too said the vinyl was a quality vinyl but the backing caused the seams to tear. Having the rear seats replaced is a good thing. If you need more vinyl work, I sent mine to a shop recommended by Whitlock one of the long time Tigeowners on here. It is rediculously affordable compared to other shops. I have replaced ALL of my seat bottoms since I purchased it.

Even if the steering cable is good, replacing the steering cable should be a right of passage for a new tigeowner

Sounds Fair, I paid 30k and it had a bigger engine, every upgrade except the heater checked in 2013, and had 90 hours. I would say mine was in average to above average shape when I bought it.

Thanks Stingreye I was hoping you would chime in since I knew you had the same boat. I did forget to mention the boat has double biminis decent tower mounted, and another stand alone in the back, both are sunbrella and in good shape. The tower looked strong and didn't have much wiggle in it, but my buddy was not a fan of the built in board racks.

I had the phat buddy tower on our 22i, and never had any issues in the 5 years we had it. In fact, the dealer stated he thought it was one of the best towers made during those years (when we were trading it in). The built in board racks dont look all that nice, but in my opinion they were very good at securing a board. I think you can remove the board racks. Maybe someone else will chime in on that.

I looked recently at a 2005 24V with far fewer hours and the guy was wanting 30k. It was fairly beaten. Some rust on the trailer, some gel coat fading. A few spots on the seats needed replacing, stereo was not fully functional, you get the idea. I suspect it was going to be OK, but needed a bit. This one sounds pretty well ready to use, and the guy has replaced what needs replacing for the most part. I was looking at it for a friend. I then suggested he look at my old boat to see what a well cared for boat looks like from that vintage and he ended up buying my old boat from Bad05 for several grand more than that. But it had full ballast and a huge stereo as well, FAE, rotating board racks and a few other goodies.

I think it is a great boat to start with and will be something he will never outgrow unless he gets the itch for new technology, no matter his preferred sport. I would try to get out the door under 30K because of the high hours. As you mentioned, high hours are not a big deal. In my mind, this owner loved his boat, and it sounds like it shows. But the hours are a big deal to a lot of people who will compare, so you have to pass along the hit you will take when you try and sell it with 1200 hours in a couple of years.

The more you talk about your old boat the more you are going to want to sell the G and keep the old girl for yourself!

I agree with the statements above. The maintenance seems correct for the year and hours. Having a clean slate for ballast and stereo isn't a bad thing and with new upholstery, sounds like a good buy that he can grow into or at least get into with little risk of much depreciation for the first few years.

I own a 04 22V riders edition, I agree, besides the graphics, everything else is the same. Link some pictures so we can see this beast! Love this year boat I truly do. I only wish I bought a 24V instead of the 22. It's real nice to have some room when you have a big group going out.
