    Under water LED's

    I have a 2015 Z3 with AVX.
Anyone have any experience with underwater LED's with a VX or AVX? Where should I mount the LED's? ( transom or TAPS plate) Most pictures I have seen show them mounted to the transom, but will the AVX cast a shadow while floating? If mounted to the transom with AVX will the LED's possibly overheat while underway due to being out of the water, and will the light reflect off the top of the water instead of into the water?

Also any first hand recomendation on a brand of LED's? I'm thinking Lifeform.

    Thanks,
    Will

I would consider mounting them to the top side of the AX, as far aft as possible. This is going to require a bracket. I prefer the shadow caster and lifeform models and both offer a trim tab. However, the 90* of these tab's mounting, may have them pointing upward when mounted to the angled AV. This application may require a custom angled one-off trim tab style mount.

Both these have over heat protection.

Im a little far for you to stop in and demo both for you, but let me know if I can get either for you.

Thanks for the info. Please keep it coming. Im still in the planing process. My boat is at the dealer until after the first of the year. Waiting on warranty parts. Seat cover and a module for the radio.

          Chpthril,
Thats a great idea to mount it on the AVX. I had not thought about that. I have the means to make some custom brackets. Maybe Ill make some temporary ones this spring to see how they would work mounted their.

As for making the trip to your shop, I was thinking about it before you mentioned it. My sister lives in GA and I'm planing a trip this summer to see her and bringing the boat with me. I want to add a set of Rev10's and a better sub. If I make the trip and add to the stereo I would want to get it tuned by a pro and their isn't one near me.

Awesome, id be happy to help you will all that. Im 5 minutes off i85 so you pretty much go right by me heading to GA.

If space between the platform and VX is not an issue, I like the performance to $$$ of the Lifeform 9. But if clearance for a round light is an issue, then the rectangle Shadow caster is great choice.

                Nice install Smcqueen.
How do you like the Seablaze 3 light?
Does your VX block any of the light?

Amazon has the Seablaze X for $320 to $340 depending on the color. Im leaning towards blue. The specs are comparable to the lifeform 9 except for the housing is bronze on the X and aluminum on the 9. Seablaze X also claims slightly higher amps, lumens and watts than the Lifeform 9.

This chart is from lifeform but shows the wrong price for the Seablaze X.

Anyone have any experience with the Seablaze X? Good/Bad?

That price listed by LifeForm is likely accurate. its the amazon or their 3rd party e-tailer, thats selling them way below the MSRP.

Lumans are unqualified. IMO, current draw in amps is the most accurate to compare.

Lifeform 9 claims to pull 2.7 amps and Seablaze x claims to pull 3.6 amps. Does that mean Seablaze X is brighter (I would assume so looking at the specs) or less efficient (cheap circuit board and bad solder joints)?

I have no experience with either brand. They are both in the same price range. I just want to make the better purchase. Is one better than the other in quality or are they equal?

As for purchasing through an e-tailer, 90% of boat accessories I purchase are going to be from an online store. The closest marine store to me is Overtons and it's an hour and 45 away or West Marine an hour and a half away in the other direction. Neither of witch are mom and pop store.
