    Spray pockets

I am looking for my first vdrive. We only wakeboard and tube (younger kids). We'd like to get into surfing. How do the spray pockets affect the wake? I have been looking at early 2000 tiges.

We do all things you stated above. I don't feel the "washed lip" has much effect on our fun. But we are all rookies. Surf wave is plenty clean. Yes there are cleaner wakeboard wakes out there. If you find a tige' in your budget go for it, you will have plenty of fun.

Our surf wake is definately better on the regular foot side and takes more "tweaking" to get a good goofy side wave. Not a problem going ropeless though. This is our first inboard and we have had for 2 seasons and have not outgrown. I have only surfed on one other boat, so IMO the spray pockets don't affect the surf wave. The spray pockets are also not a hinderance to us for boarding either. However, we (the adults) are just jumping wake and doing 180's. The kids are just learning to get outside the wake. Definately try and find one with perfect pass.

There's a really good write up on here of a guy who filled in his spray pockets on his early 00 Tige. As stated above, I don't. Think the pockets make that big of difference, depending on your experience level. If your a Pro yes you will notice, beginner you won't notice.

In surfing I believe the spray pockets allow the boat to list easier and less weight will make a nice pretty wave. I have a buddy that keeps his boat next to mine in the marina, its a 23v. He runs less weight and gets a great wave.

My only question is , are you talking about the spray pockets in the hull midsection , or the narrowed tail section, the spray pockets in the mid section were to keep the spray down while going through the slalom coarse and the narrowed tail was to make the wake narrowed so you had less to cross at speed.

Filling the spray pockets in the mid section would give more hull surface area , filling in the narrowed tail would increase hull width at the transom.

I am talking about the pockets in the tail. I read some where that the pockets soften the wake lip or cause it to wash at different speeds when wakeboarding. I consider myself a novice and prefer faster speed (21-23) than my wife and friends (high teens)

I have a 21v and have wondered about the spray pockets. I have read that when heavily weighted, the wakeboard wake lip washes out. I only surf these days so as far as I know it does not affect my surf wave. Others may chime in about the surf wave but I don't think it really matters too much.

Heavily weighted my wake washes out as well. With no spray pockets
