    Tower Speaker Questions

I purchased my boat last year, a Tige 20v and I am so satisfied with it. The boat needed an upgrade with the sound system so I upgraded the interior speakers and the speakers on my tower. I went with a Rockford Fosgate Marine amp m600-4D (it got excellent reviews from multiple sources) and I have two Samson S7HD speakers on my tower. My sub is powered by a seperate amp. The S7HD's do a good job but ive found when im out boarding they arent quite as strong as I would like and tend to get distorted when the volumes up high, so I need to turn them down slighty, then they are fine. I am considering moving up to the S9HD speakers for my tower. Would I notice a good difference between those versus the S7HD? Also, do the S9's use the same mounts as the S7's?

Overall I am pretty satisfied with Samson I just feel that the S7's are a little small. Im open to other brands but feel like sticking with samson may equal an easier transition. Looking forward to advice! Thanks!

Also I would like to stick with 2 speakers on the tower, I like the look of two and feel like with the right setup it would be more than sufficient. Thanks guys!

Lets start with the basics. There are two way general means to increase output at the end of the line. A) add more speakers and B) go to a larger speaker. So, seeing that you want to stick with only one pair, your option is to go from a 6.5" HLCD to an 8" or 10" HLCD.

Now lets get a little technical. If im reading this correctly, the 4 chnl M600/4 is driving the in-boats and towers? If so, those 6.5" HLCD's are receiving half the wattage of what I would like to have them powered at. So, upgrading to a larger speaker is not going to be a return on investment unless the amp wattage driving them is upgraded. The low wattage to the current setup is likely the cause of the distortion. You are driving the amp into clip mode long before you are getting the desired volume from them. I would also revisit the amp tuning as well.

The current Samson pods may be coming with a new swivel collar. It may not be backward compatible with your older style. This means you would just have to dismount the clamp and use the new clamp that came with the new pods.

If you do upgrade the amp wattage, you need to make sure the speaker wire is sufficient. Bottom line, this upgrade may not be just a simple plug-n-play.

Thank you! I really appreciate your advice. I was told that the amp would be sufficient but I was skeptical as well. I am not completely against the idea of adding more speakers to the tower. I would hate to lose the s7's since they are in great shape, I just worry about having more holes drilled in the tower. Any advice on places to look that would do the work? I have a tige dealer about 30 minutes from my house but the owner is not a trust worthy guy (I have their last service manager as my mechanic for the boat and he gave me the inside scoop) so I dont trust their advice. Know of how I can find someone that will be honest and not screw me over? I want my sound system to sound great but I dont necessarily want to murder my wallet either.

Make an offer on these speakers just take into account that you will need to also get the TC3-F or TC3-S clamps to go with them

The M600/4 amp you have would drive them at 300W rms x 2, but you would then need an for the in-boats. Arc Audio XDi450.4

You need to find a mobile audio shop that that has good marine audio experience rather then a boat dealer.

You could add a 2nd pair of the S7's, if they are still available, but you still need an amp for them. I would suggest the Arc Audio KS300.2
