I'm looking to buy my first Tige soon (I need to sell my old IO firstly). My budget won't allow for brand new, so I'm searching for a neat used example. A boat of interest is a 2011 Z1 with a PCM 343 in it. It's the Gen 1 hull shape which I think is still a great looking boat. Can someone tell what were the changes in design from Gen 1 to Gen2? Should I keep saving and hang out for a Gen2?

The Gen II is notably larger. It adds only 6" in length, but almost 600lbs. So that means more storage, deeper seating etc. However with the bigger size comes bigger cost as well to tow it and run it.
As for surfing, the Gen I is often said to be one of the best. I don't think people are ever unhappy with it. Gen II comes with Vx or Avx etc, and is a purpose built surf boat. It is also a killer surf wave. The issue that some report (myself included) that the Gen II is very tippy.
I personally feel the Gen I Z1 is the sharpest looking boat Tige has ever built. But that's just me. You can't really go wrong with either.
If you can accept the smaller size, then go for the Gen I. If you can't, then wait for a Gen II. I find my Gen II is still too small. If I had the room, I would own a Z3.
