    08 Drivers Seat Pedestal

The bottom of my pedestal is somewhat loose causing the entire captain chair to rock around a bit. I disassembled it and am just wondering if there is anything I can do? It's a bit loose and it sure is not smooth when it turns. Is there supposed to be a plastic gasket in the bottom joint or is it just supposed to be lubed with grease? There is a LOT of metal on metal scraping when it turns.

    Ideas? Just replace it?

I put a taller seat base in my boat this year and your more than welcome to have my old one if you pay to ship... Only problem is it's gonna be a bit shorter than that. I just measured and it's only 4.5 inches top to base.. I got mine from another guy on here, but this is the link I was gonna use if he hadn't spoken up.

This is the same fixed height ribbed pedestal, there are a few different height options and you can always get one a little bigger and cut it to your height if they don't have the exact match...

Thanks for the offer Bryan! I may actually go a bit taller myself. I think I'll order a new one from the link you provided me. I'm assuming the new one won't come with the white nylon collar. I'll have to figure out how to get that thing off.

If you keep the old one, just drill and install 3-4 nice bolts at evenly spaced positions through the base and post. Use black anodized hardware, or chrome, or similar to dress it up. It will never rotate again and be stronger than factory. (You'll need at least three to prevent rocking.) #8 hardware would be more than large enough, yet still be small enough to be tasteful.

Does your collar not just slide off? Mine came right off the top with no trouble at all. I just slid it on the new one and all has been good to go...

Is it not supposed to swivel (turn) at the bottom?

I am not around my boat--what is the height of the original and what one did you buy to increase the height a little?

Based on the photo I certainly hope any swivel action isn't based on letting that splined post turn in that base. Presumably a swivel action will be handled by a mechanism immediately below the seat, not all the way at the bottom. That's how the seats on both of my boats have been arranged.

Yes.. Swivel is in the top slide/turn mechanism. Seat pedestal stays solid.

Dakota.. Here are a couple pics. Don't pay attention to how dirty she is right now
Original seat pedestal shaft was 4.5 inches. The new one I put in is 13.5 inches. These earlier boats (mine being '03) had very low seats. Some had flip up bolsters, mine did not. I was tired of driving on my knee to raise up enough to see everything. This new pedestal is great. Can drive without having to raise up to look, and it's super great when pulling up to docks and other boats because now I can just reach over and grab them... Best upgrade I've done...

Beautiful, that looks great. I have a flip up, so I am going to have to measure what I have. Either way, would be nice to drive on the more comfortable seat rather than the flip up all the time. Especially when we are listed over at 16 degrees!

Exactly... And my wife is short so she always drove sitting on the back of the seat with her feet in the seat... I love her but that annoyed the crap outta me.. Killed two birds with one stone

That's why this board is so great! Just saved myself a hundred bucks cdn. I did not even realize the bottom of the pedestal was supposed to be solid and stationary. Had the boat over a year now and mine was just always loose. I took IDBoating's advice and drilled four holes in through base and put bolts and nuts on the inside. Rock solid now! And I happened to have the hardware kickin around my garage.

                        Thanks!

Nothing better than a quick, inexpensive fix!! That thing looks to have many years of solid seat holding ahead
