Skim board for my 8 year old - 90 lb'er

    All,

I have an 8 year old that is about 90 lbs. Looking for a good next step up for him... He is consistently throwing the rope but is ready to move to the next level... Any ideas? Phase 5 scamp?

Or is there a skim/surf combo that would be good?

    Thanks!

I have a barely used scamp I would sell you.

I just picked up the scamp this year and have a 9 year old that learned on it this summer. Also had a 10 year old son of a good friend get up on it as well.
        so far so good!

Thanks guys. Anyone try the boards from lake wakes? They seem to make a surf/skim hybrid that could be fun for the little ones.

I am very happy with my Lakewakes skim style.

I like my CWB Tsunami. It rides nice and fast and spins well. Gets a lot of use on my boat. I have not had much time to ride newer models so can't add much in that respect.

I too have a Lakewakes Flying saucer. I like it but think it's too loose for my 9yr old daughter at this point. She may progress up to it at some point but will be a while.

Phase 5 Scamp all the way!!! My 7 and 9 young old boys love it!!! Very easy to learn on as they can flip the board up quick and it's very manageable in the water.

                  Great board!!

Was there still a Phase 5 Scamp out there for sale? Still looking for a board for my little ones.

I have a Lakewakes Flying Saucer as well as a small Lakewakes Bean. I would recommend either, although as pointed out, the Saucer may be a touch too loose. The Bean is really the best of both worlds, and can be changed dramatically by altering the fin setup. Put all the fins in, you have a scamp like ride; put just the middle and you have your Saucer like ride. You can also put surf fins in the outside and get a surf feel. My kids can flip and ride the Bean easily. It also works well for my wife who is 115#. I think Mark said its good up to 140# or so.

Email him--sometimes he is hard to connect with, but is good once you connect. I absolutely LOVE his boards. I have recommended and "sold" 3 others around my home. Everyone loves them.

FYI he also has a competition rider who uses the Bean. So it has a wide variety of skills built into it.

There you go---if they're dropping the rope already, they'll want more than the Scamp packs for a punch. I would think.
