Ive driven an R21 and honestly didn't think twice about the gauges missing. I guess I'm so used to using the very detailed info off of TT2 instead of depending on my gauges on my 15' Z3, that looking solely at the smaller screen in the R21 felt right at home. Just like TT2, you can get the info you want on the "home" screen, and toggle between the other specific screens for Ballast Config, Surf (taps3), etc....

The tower, the dash, etc all adds up to a price point package. If you want it all, go with a Z1, Z3, RZ2, RZ4, ASR, RZX.......

I like it for what it is....just can't see a 21 foot boat on Lake Mead! Back home in SD/MN it would have been a great option for the money!

I'd put money on the new engine being the 6.2 from Super Duty. Same engine with a little less umph

The 360R is a Ford 6.2L putting out about 360 lb.ft. of torque and around 308 HP.

What did you think of the rest of the boat?
I stopped at a dealer last weekend to have a look, but they did not have one in stock.
I would like to get a look at one first hand.

Again, noting that this is a price point solution for Tige, I thought the rest of the boat filled that void/ need.

Exterior styling was on point, Tower served a purpose (sure Alpha Z is nicer, but also more $$), Taps 3 equipped can get anyone surfing, transferring, etc... It had plenty of power, handled very similar to my Z3, didn't have gas shocks on some of the seats (again a cost savings), and should be exactly what the market was looking for in a more budget friendly boat. Just some of my mental notes from 2 months ago.

This ought to gain some market share from the Axis, Moomba, Sanger folks.......

Glad to answer any more specific questions, if you have them.

Anyone have a chance to ride in/behind one of these boats yet? If so, what is your opinion?

If you haven't been on one on the water, has anyone played around with the new smaller control? Is it functional and easy to navigate, especially compared to TT (not TT2)?

The R21 might be the answer to get us back in a Tige.

                    Thanks in advance.

Dandy didn't you have a Z1? R21 is the same boat with less features and a worse tower. Probably will cost more now than you paid for the Z1 3 years ago. Curious why you would go back after dumping your Z1 after only a year? Certainly a huge step back after owning a G!!!

The wife and I are kicking around the idea of ordering an R22. Our dealer has one on order but I have not been inside of it. I was at the dealership when they receive their first R21 and I was able to get inside and look around. The interior is obviously plain compared to a traditional Z or RZ but they both actually seem to have the same material. I didn't play with the smaller touchscreen that day but I have played with the touch screen in an R20 that our dealer has and it was very functional. The side buttons give you access to the different screens you want to see. It functions fluidly like TT to does. Obviously the boat is built to be budget oriented which is a thing I love. Don't get me wrong I love the normal lineup but some of the price tags on new boats make payments brutal. I actually like the new tower I don't think it's terrible at all. Dont get me wrong thr alpha z is great but to save some money I don't mind the new tower at all.

Hey boardman, good to hear from you.
You are correct on all accounts. We did dump the Z1 after just a year due to some frustrations, but one thing I have never spoken bad about is the wave produced by the Tige hulls. We have since dumped the G as we just got tired of payments. Probably could not have gotten rid of it at a better time, just before the 2016 G release. With all the new changes and technology in the industry it really is hard to determine what to get. To be honest, I am really watching today's "budget boats". Our daughter is 12 and loves being on the water but has so many other things going on that we just didn't get out at much as we wanted. This spring, we actually bought our 15' Boston Whaler (before even thinking about selling the G) just so that we could get on the water faster - we trailer. Taking the larger boats out requires alot of time and we don't have it now. After selling the G, we have sworn by no longer having a boat payment. House payments and 1 reasonable car payment (if desired) is all we want for payments (other than business/investment notes, but that money to make money). The budget boats today, keeping a close eye on the Supremes, Tige R series and believe it or not MNs own Gekko Boats may be the boat that we will be able to buy outright in 3-4 years after some else takes the depreciation. I don't disagree that any of these boats are a step down from the G, but after the G we HAVE to have an even weighted boat - my wife loved driving it. Honestly, we just want a stripped down boat - no tower speakers, just what we need to have a great time surfing...but level. Time will tell, but payments are out of the question. Let someone else put on the first few scuffs and scratches, that way we don't feel as bad about the few we put on and let them take the depreciation. Long story, but that is our interest in the R series.

Makes sense. I hear you about the payments. I did that for 5 years prior to this season. We ran a lesser boat this season(Gekko), it did everything we asked of it and never had an issue with it. Kids still had fun and no payment. I actually made money when I sold it in the fall. Considering we put on 20 hours(same situation as you kids are always busy) I can't justify a payment any longer. AS of now I don't even think I am going to buy a tow boat next year. Thinking about going back to a cruiser slipped locally as we never seem to have the time to drive the 3 hours each way to the lake cabin up north.

                              R21

One of my buddies just bought an R21. I was with him in the test ride and was very excited to see the wave but unfortunately they missed a fuel pump gasket and we ended up with fuel in the sub floor so the drive got cut very short. The one he bought actually has the Z tower on it and is a great looking boat. I played with the screen a lot in the showroom and it seemed very intuitive and rudimentary making it easy to use. Here's a photo of it.
