What would cause this overheat on 21v?

Hey so i've owned two tiges and my 20v that I own now has never overheated however my previous boat a 99 20i overheated a few times. A couple things you could do, as long as the water is calm and the boat isnt bouncing around, go underneath with a mask and make sure the intake isnt clogged with trash or weeds (I know this is like reading the "is it plugged in" portion of directions but I did find a plastic bag on mine one time). I have a feeling that your impeller is fine since the temperature went back down, if your impeller was broken or badly cracked the temperature would not have lowered. If the engine is still overheating I wouldn't recommend opening the impeller housing on the water and checking it out. Better to just call it a day, get it fixed or checked out, and then go back on the water with your boat reliable and happy. I would definitely check all of your fluids too just to rule that one out as well. My alarm went off one time alerting me that the fluid temperature in my transmission was too hot, it was easy to rule out after finding that the fluid was low due to a leak.
You may want to have your mechanic check your thermostat. Since the boat overheated and then eventually after a few times cooled down, you could have a sticky thermostat and that could cause the engine to either stay cold or get too hot.

When I replaced my tach it had the hour meter in it so I replaced the old hour meter with a water pressure gauge. I haven't hooked it up to the water source yet, but the gauge is in the hole. I had a lot of things being added at the time, so it just wasn't a priority to finish. Maybe this off season? I don't even know if it can work like I want it to, but it's the plan. I didn't do much research, if there is any. Here is the gauge I bought.

It's been so long I can't even remember what parts I need to tap into the water pressure. Oh well, like I said, it's a low priority project. I don't even know if it's the correct pressure range?Mike Allen, Tigé owner since 1997

Here's what I have on all my boats. Teamallen has the gauge in the dash but I did this to necessitate opening and visually inspecting the engine for belt, oil pressure etc...

On my PRE2200, I added a fuel pressure gauge and adjustable fuel pressure regulator in the same place.
But as for the over heat, what I did after replacing the fresh water pump on her, is add a section of clear tubing so I can visually inspect that water is moving.

I have a Perko flush kit that is clear and, therefore, allows me to see when water is flowing.
If you're overheating at idle but not under way it sounds like air could be leaking from the raw water pump hoses or a weak impeller. I did have an issue when my Perko valve was not capped with a lack of suction in the system at rest because air was escaping. Under way the water was being forced through the intake so the engine was cooled. As soon as I properly capped the Perko valve all was good.
