On Saturday I had to be towed in because of overheat alarm. Took to local dealer and he was able to replace the impeller and I was back in business. I test drove that evening and everything was good. Put it on the lift for the evening and we were back surfing on Sunday. While we were changing riders, one of the people on the boat noticed the bilge pump was running. I looked back and saw the swim platform pretty far under the water and quite a bit of water in the bilge. I went to start the engine and it would not start. We opened the hatch and there was steam coming off the engine. We finally noticed that the hose on top of the impeller housing had come off. At that point I knew where the water was coming from. We put the hose back on and found that the hose clamp was so loose that we could slide into position without having to loosen it.
We tracked down a boat and got towed in the for a second time. We left the engine cool for a couple of hours and it started with no issues. We were able to surf for about 4 hours with no issues. I called the dealer the next day and he said his tech told him that he never took the hose off for the impeller replacement. I have a hard time believing this was coincidental.
I am wondering what kind of damage it may have caused to the engine with no water being circulated thru the engine. Does the engine shut down when it senses no water or high teimperature.
Thanks for the help.
