      I use two cam straps through the eye bolts on the gate in the picture. Rear bolt goes straight forward and front bolt goes lateral.

        Since the last post I have only made it out once on my boat (weak, I know). However, I did reduce the size of the gate and was able to regain left steering. I removed about 5" of length and 2" of height (the 2" that previously extended below the spray pocket). Fuel economy was vastly improved as well. Pic of the new and old gate:

        The next gate will be even shorter. In addition I made a simple, non adjustable, gate for my buddies Sanger 210 which was another 2-3" shorter and had virtually zero impact on the steering. Took about 30 min to make that gate. Results were impressive again. I do not have good pics of those sessions as we were without our normal camera. Pic of the Sanger wave:
