    About to purchase first Tige

First I want to thank you all for the great info, I have spent way to much time reading all of the amazing info on here and keep coming back. My wife and I are about to purchase our first boat and have decided to go with a Tige. Buying new is an option but is hard to swallow the price tag. We really would like to purchase an Rz2. So here is my question, a friend of a friend is selling their 2007 Rz2 for a good price and has offered it to us. We are hesitant cause I know this was the first year for the Rz2's and with any first year production makes me a little nervous. They have never had a problem with the boat and is garaged stored 210hrs. Is this a good idea? I know it's used but saving half the cost on a used one seems like a good idea. Any advice would help. Thanks!

Depending on the price and options it is a very good boat if purchased at a good cost. Many have had that year and many are happy and never had problems. What engine is in it? Is it plumbed in ballast? There is nothing wrong buying a used boat if it is one you will enjoy and suits your purposes you intend to use it at. You will find many on here with invaluable information and very willing to help. Tell us what options are on the boat and we can give you a better idea of value. In CO. you will want the lager engines due to altitude. Plumbed in ballast is almost a must however you will probably add more. What kind of ballast setup does this one have? Stereo is very important and can be upgraded always but at a cost. Take it out on a test drive. Play with everything. Inspect all areas and storage areas. Play with all switches, latches, and stereo as well as the cruise controls and trim. Have a dealer do a check out if you are unsure of something.

However with all this said new is a great option too. The new boats have better and more refined options. The newest have great surf controls ie: the Z3 and the new RZX. If I could afford a new one that would be the way I would go.

Although the pickle fork rz2 was new for 07, there was nothing else about that boat was different then any other Tige. Same hull material and build process, same carpet, engine trans v-drive, tower, vinyl, gauges, ballast system, stereo, etc. I haven't seen the forks fall off, id say its a safe purchase to pull the trigger on that 9 year old model. I don't foresee any 1st-year gremlins popping up at this point. Any future issues you may see, would be related to age and use.

Welcome to TO, Timmy! You can't buy an '07 RZ2 because that is what I have and that would just be too confusing on here. LOL! 2 Timmy's with 2007 RZ2's? That just won't work. Only kidding, of course!
I have had my RZ2 since new and it has had very few problems. I only had 1 item fixed under warranty and that was in the first month out. I had a speedset issue but that is now fixed as well. 8 years and 400+ hours of reliable operation. I think they are pretty solid boats.

            ...And they're both on Colorado...

Oh man, didn't want to steal any of the original Timmy's thunder. Thanks for the replies. The rz2 I'm looking at has the PCM 400hp motor and 900lbs of ballast split between four tanks (I have not had a chance to take a look at the setup yet). Original Timmy, are you able to surf the stock wave or do you have to add ballast? Also fellow Coloradans who do you guys use on the front range for service?

We live up in Fort Collins and still take the boat down to WWS for service.

The big differences between the 07 and a new '16 would be:
                    - Tige Touch (in this case, version 2)
                    - Alpha Z tower
                    - Taps3 or AVX

                    The smaller differences would be:
                    - swim platform can often mess with the surf wave on older boats
                    - engines are now supplied by Indmar and not Marine Power
                    - you would need to add some more surf ballast.

I've been watching the pricing on these boats for several years. The rule of thumb I look at is that a 10 year old boat tends to be valued at 50% of it's purchase price. For instance, my boat was $80k in 2013, so it will likely still be $40k in 2023. This boat was likely around $60k in 2007, so $30k in 2017. The scary part is the new boats keep going up in price, so its getting hard to stay in the game!

I'm just joking around with you!
My boat didn't have the factory ballast system so I put my own in with the custom L shaped sacs. You will want those Chptril can get you all setup with those when the time comes. WWS is the place to go for service, sales, etc. Great people and they treat you like family! Can't say enough good about the crew at WWS.

WWS is definitely the place to go for service in Colorado. They are the #1 Tige dealer in the country for service and sales according to Tony from the factory.

X 1,000,000 on WWS( yeah I just did that). With as much as I bother mike and bill in the service dept. I'm surprised they still answer the phone when I call. I was just in there yesterday and saw a 2016 rz2 with taps 3 and almost told the IRS to stick it yesterday. Beautiful boat even the colors. But my 08 rz2 is my baby and I will never part with her. Also I would prefer AVX. But anyway, the RZ2 is a great platform to start with. Enjoy it!
Sometimes you have to do what feels good, rather than what feels right.

We bought an 07 RZ2 earlier this year and have been nothing but happy with it. So much room for a 22ft boat. Family loves it. Great wake, great surf wave and it pulls the minions on a tube like any other boat. Granted the new ones are beautiful and more refined, the 07 still floats and and with the pickle fork I think it looks newer then many other manufactures 9 year old boats on the water.

We also purchased ours with no factory ballast and with the help of Mike at MLA we quickly filled that void.

As long as the price is right and its in decent shape I think you will be more then happy with this boat.
