    Speedometer

Sorry for the lack of info here but can some tell me what may have happened?

Last night the speedometer stopped working after we had been using the boat for a few hours with it working. We had been sitting for a short time, started the boat up and it didn't work. When we stopped I crawled under the steering column as I knew the panel/fuses were there. None of the fuses are labeled anything that would make me think they controled the gauges and none seemed tripped as I tested them. I also stuck my hand up and felt around the back of the unit itself but did not feel anything unusual. Started the boat up and it was working again?????

My only thought is that there may be a loose wire on the back of the unit that made contact again when I put my hand up there. Is the speedometer electronic controled or is there the big cable that "hardwires" it to the paddle? If so, my loose wire theory wouldn't make sense....

your profile says you have a 20v, so I'm going to assume you have a paddle wheel speedo pickup (instead of a pitot tube). What probably happened is that something got caugh up in the wheel (to the right of your TAPS plate, sticking out the transom) and prevented it from spinning. When you stopped, the debris became dislodged and allowed the wheel to start again. I'd check it for grass, moss, etc. that might have gotten caught up in it. Also, make sure it spins freely.

If you have perfect pass, that has another speedometer in it.

If you have an older boat with a pitot tube, that probably got clogged. I'd check it for debris as well.

Sorry about the lack of boat info....'06 20v.

I bet that is all that it was. We get a lot of lake/underwater weed growth this time of year. You run through it at it gets cut up and floats around. It is everywhere and that makes perfect sense!!

Thanks for the help, I'll sleep better tonight!
