altered swim deck for better wakesurf wave?

Has anybody tried to alter their swim deck platform, to make a better wakesurf wave?
If so what were the results? I have a 2004 tige 22v, I know it's a older boat, but it runs great
I have a 1100lb bag in thr rear locker, a 800lb bag on the seat, and 400lb bag in the front of the boat.
It makes a pretty good surf wave, just trying to make it better. Thanks

Some people here have reduced the size of their swim platform on the theory that it damages the quality of the surf wave. On the other hand, our swim platform is rather large - goes the complete width of the transom and is at least two feet long - and actually HELPS shape what is a great surf wave on our boat, so I have no interest in changing it.

Hopefully others will chime in here and relate their experiences. Or do a search, there are multiple threads on the topic.

The 2009 swim platform was substantially reduced in size compared to earlier models.

Id start by taking it off and seeing to what degree the wave is effected.

How would they have increased its size relative to mine? It's the full width of the transom already. I suppose they could have made it longer, but wow!

Duncan is talking about the RZ2/4 platform, I think the 22/24Ve stayed the same.

Couple points.... your V likely has a teak swim deck. So it is smooth underneath which is a good thing and is similar to the prototype aluminum deck ragboy put on his 24VE that improved his wave.

I cut mine down and I felt like it only made a difference in two scenarios:
              1) Your platform hits the surface on the water on the opposite side you surf from. On my boat, if the platform skims the surface, the face turns to a white mess. Generally, it was only caused by going heavy in the rear with counter weight. I kept the same length on my platform just made it more narrow and cut the corners off where it would touch the wave.
              2) Rough chop. In rougher water, the platform on the opposite side would hit the wave and again dirty up the wave for a second. Now, it doesn't seem to impact the wave other than a rollers running through while surfing. before it was almost like a fountain that would spout white water when the platform hit.

I did Duffy's surf flap mod before trimming the deck I think and I feel like that made a bigger difference than trimming my deck. I could be wrong but that's just a gut feeling.

You can also make a small cheap plywood deck to test out. My gut feeling is that I would be hesitant to recommend someone modify their deck because I think its a small incremental benefit that I am not sure many would benefit from. I really like my setup now but I was able to get an excellent wave before I trimmed my platform down.

I have surfer Topaz's wave and he has the deck trimmed and a surf flap and his wave is awesome. He is running I think 1600 lbs in the rear and 1k in the nose.

Some great pics of his wave here:

If you look close you can see both his trimmed deck and the surf flap.

Yes, I know your RZ2's swim platform is significantly smaller than the one on my same-year 24Ve.

I believe no swim deck should touch the wave. Just my .02 cents

                    Quick Hijack-kinda.

I also have the huge stock fiberglass Ve deck like WA.

Looked at the link above, then led me to another link showing an RZ4 that Ragboy helped dial in http://www.flickr.com/photos/wake9/s...7635634524455/

How does the 24Ve/24V hull respond to greater bow weight? I thought the RZ4 hull was very similar (aside from the obvious) to the Ve hull--and looking at this RZ4 it is not listed like a SOB like my boat is. If I could get away with listing a little less, I would take it. The rubrail in the water is a little disconcerting to passengers...

Additionally, Stingreye notes above that Topaz's boat runs 1000 lbs in the nose of a 22V. Would this help my 24Ve?

My wave is great, could it be better? Aside from the platform trim as this thread discusses, I was under the impression that I was doing it best--1800lb surf side corner, 300-400 bow. 400# lead that ends up usually in surf side corner too.

I love this sh$t. Fun to tweak.

Yes trimming your deck can help depending on the rest of your set up. Here is an old post of when I started playing with my set up.http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...m+platform+mod

dakota4ce keep in mind that more bow weight will lenghten your pocket but also take away from the height and push of your wave. And the 22v is more sensitive to bow weight changes than the 24v. And changing the ride height of your bow can change how the water comes off your stock or cut down swim platform and mud flap too. My best advise is change one thing at a time and then adjust elswhere accordingly.

Here's a tip for the 24Ve owners: Bow weight helps with the goofy side wave. As in a LOT. I have a 400 pound fat sac hidden up front and learned long ago that filling it really helped the goofy side wave. But recently I experimented with even more weight up there, and just tonight I added another full 400 pound fat sac up front while surfing goofy. Result: Even better goofy than before. And I've always had a clean goofy side wave. I just never pushed it farther, once I had a "good" wave on that side. Now, with 800 pounds up front, the goofy side is just awesome.

I always figured that the longer 24 foot hull didn't need as much bow weight, that its longer moment arm meant less was fine. Wow. Don't stop pushing, keep trying new things. I may revise my hidden ballast setup in the bow based on tonight's performance.

I built this for my 2007 22ve. It is pretty close to the RZ size. Made a huge difference on my wake.

Well, today I learned that the 2009 swim platform decrease was RZ only. I wrongfully assumed it was across models.
