    Phase 5 Wire?

Anyone ridden the Phase 5 Wire? I have heard good things about it but haven't ridden one yet.

    Thoughts?

I test rode it about a month ago, comparing to the Doomswell Neo and found it to be really sluggish in comparison. I ended up buying the Neo and then rode the Aku and the Neo felt as sluggish next to the Aku as the the Wire did compared to the Neo. I ended up selling the Neo and buying the Aku and love the board. The Aku is fast, quick and easy to pop, imho, compared to the wire. I am 205lbs. The board lengths I tested were:

    Wire: 57"
    Aku: 56"
    Neo: 56"

For me, hands down the Aku.

Zad - thanks for the feedback. Same weight so that is very interesting... Haven't thought much about the Aku. But I will now!

What was your fin setup on the Neo? I can slow mine down, or speed it up with different fins. Couldn't be happier with it.

The wire likes to nose dive with no recovery because of the shovel nose. Something to get used to for sure. Nicely built board and good for airs. Needs to be pumped though for the drive but it is there. We have an AKU which is a really nice board. It has good drive and nimble. However the AKU is the least used board in our quiver. The Shredstixxusa chaos ringer is the used and abused board as well as the chaos sixxer, and skim. The ringer is a super easy board to use with great drive, good airs and good for spins. It is a flatter board though and the nose will dive on you the first few rides till you figure out how to surf it correctly and then the problem just does not exist afterwards. You will actually never have a problem surfing any board after the ringer as it teaches you to surf correctly. The Sixxer is probably the easiest and nicest board I have ridden to date. Really good construction that takes abuse like non custom boards while performs like a pro board. It has a shovel nose but the rocker prevents nose dives and makes for a super easy ride. Airs and spins nicely. We just got the chaos carbon skim this year. Wow... never been a big fan of skim but this board is a ton of fun. I had to learn how to use proper edging as the fins... well fins are quite small and not really used for tracking. Once you get the hang of it though it sure is a blast. Busted out a 1080 first spin attempt. It also airs pretty good too for a skim.

I have ridden the wire a bit lately. I like it a lot. I have ridden the 5'3 and I am 225lbs. Actually rode out my first 360 on the wire on Saturday.

All the different experiences posted on this thread just goes to show how individual a board is...demo as many boards as you can to see what you like. For me, given what I have ridden, hands down the Aku.

Ya, I really did like the Aku better than the Neo.

I used the four fin setup that the board came with, didn't really play around with fins at all which I guess I should have.

get a neo!! but make sure you order the blackstick fins with it. Just call them and talk to brock. Stock fins are slow.... blacksticks = rocket!
