EPA puts huge fines on any other oil co etc that contaminates a waterway and makes a huge deal over it. Now they are the ones in the wrong and all they do is "dillute" it and will "keep an eye on it".

The ultimate hypocrisy: Hold others accountable for their actions, but avoid accountability for your own.

I know, they are ridiculous! I'm worried. We are supposed to leave Saturday for a week. We might have to go somewhere else?

Its ok....if it was California and a California department, the would have fined the CA department BIG money, then raised taxes to pay the fine, then use the money for another use than cleaning up the mess...... Feds are a little behind California when it comes to wasting money Give them a couple more years and I am sure they will figure it out.

yeah I think I would avoid that place for a bit.. man tragic given all the places water is supplied to in this area.

Sounds like the toxic waste was contained, and safe, until the EPA showed up.

Now they admit that there is arsenic and lead in the water too. It should have reached Lake Mead by September, just in time for the reunion.
                    Be excellent to one another.

If you go somewhere other than Powell.....how will you move your houseboat???
I think the bottom of your Tige is going to be a Shiney shade of yellow mustard.....

We would just not go house boating and possibly go further south Mead or Mojave. Bad timing for sure. One thought I had was to drive the houseboat north of the San Juan River Arm and stay clear of it and still get some power time in, then detox the bottom of the boat like teachercop said.

Mead is a bit low I'm told, and Mohave is windy. Havasu? or some nice lake with moderately full water levels?
I like the go North on Powell consideration....new territory...???

Mead is low for sure but still a huge body of water with more than enough depth for years to come. The area I spent my last Saturday in was 70-80 feet deep and wide open! The only real concern at Mead is the condition of the ramps at times.
