    Towing with a Toyota

Does any one here tow their boats with a Toyota Sequia? I have a 2003 Yukon Denali and it pulls the heck out of my 99 2200V. We are thinking about trading it in on a 07 Sequia. The tow rating on the Sequia is 6500lbs where my Denali is around 8500lbs. I am not sure if it( Toyota) has enough *** to pull my boat. I am hoping that some of yall might have the toyota and chime in with your experiences.

    Thanks,

    Shane

it would be pretty cool to make it part of your test drive...show up w/your boat and see what the toyo can do?...then post and let us know

How far do you plan to tow your boat?

I did that with my previous truck and my work trailer. The Chevy Dealer wanted no part of me hitching the trailer up, so I went acrosst the Street to the Ford guy.

Hooked it up and test drove it. Bought the Ford (really wanted the Chevy though). Too bad the Chevy Dealer wasn't down with me checking out the towing ability of his product.

There are a lot of people around here towing boats with Toyota's, and the seem to do pretty well. I've never seen anyone tow a boat that I thought was as heavy as your Tige though.

Hey, you can tow a Centurion with a Camry...imagine what a Sequoia can do

I live in south Louisiana, so we have no hills at all. I keep my boat in a boat house in my back yard (live on a river). So I would only tow the boat when I needed to bring it to get service which my mechanic (not a Tige dealer) who is about 15 miles from my house. I did think about taking a demo Sequia home and hooking my rig up to it to see how it does, my neighbor has a backdown boat ramp so I could see how it would pull the rig out of the water. Not sure if the dealer would approve if they knew what my intentions were.

With those parameters, I would think the Sequoia would do just fine. You might have to throw some weight in the back when you pull your boat out, but that's not that unusual.

OH, and don't knock the Camry. That's one Badda** pulling machine....

If it helps, I used to tow my 2100v Limited with a Dodge Dakota 4x4. I had a '97 extended cab and a '00 quad cab. Both had the 4.7 V8 in them. Towing capacity was 6500lbs. We do have hills here in Austin. Most of the time, I towed my boat to my neighbor's boat ramp and to the gas station (5 miles away). Occasionally took it into the dealer (about 50 miles away from where I kept the boat).

Now I have to admit I wasn't setting any speed records, but it worked just fine. Not sure I would have towed it any further than I did.

I use my 04 Sequoia 4WD to tow my 97 2150. I tow from So. Cal. to Lake Powell, Lake Mead and Lake Havasu. The Trip to Lake Powell and Lake Mead have got to be one of the most difficult routes to trailer our boats through. The heat is through the blistering desert with grades that will kill your standard passenger car.

We have not had any problems with towing with our Sequoia. We used to tow with our 88 GMC 3/4 Ton 4X4 Suburban with a 5.7L. I consider the Sequoia an improvement. I miss some of the space with the Suburban and that is about it.

You will have no problem pulling and stopping (4 wheel disc ABS) with your new Sequoia. There is a new Tundra announced for 07 with a full size profile and a 5.7L engine. I don't know if it will make it into the Sequoia in the future?

I have the AWD in my Denali now and I don't have much use for it. I am just looking at a 2WD Sequia. I really cant justify having a 4WD for the 4 times a year I pull my boat out of the water. Thanks for the comments thus far. Another thing about the 07 Toyota I hope to put a 07 or 08 RZ2 behind it in the near future!

Don't worry about the 2wd issue. My avalanche is 2wd, but quite a bit heavier, and it pulls up steep ramps very well.

Its all about the tires with a 2wd though!

I had a Sequioa and it pulled my 24V great. It seemed to do fine on the hills and really handled that big beast nicely. I think that they upgraded the tow rating in 06 to be greater than 6500 didn't they? Something fancy they did to the engine someone told me (that is total heresay).

My only gripe was that the fuel economy went way down to about 8-9 MPG. That wasn't so bad, but with only a 24 gallon fuel tank, the fillups seemed to come pretty quick.

I think my boat weighs a lot more than yours, so you should be fine. I think that the ride without the boat was tremendous, very well built vehicle.

I traded it in on the diesel excursion because when traveling with 8 people, the Sequioa had little room for storage, the engine was not the main factor, but a large additional bonus.
                          Be excellent to one another.

I tow my 2005 22V w/ a 2001 Sequoia 2WD and haven't had any problems until this weekend. Some dumba$$ rutted out the gravel ramp nearest my lakehouse so I was unable to pull out my boat. 4WD probably would have worked but I will now have to travel 3 miles to the next closest ramp.
