Currently own a 2004 Glastron 18 foot GX 180 130 HP O/B. My son is active in wakeboarding on our lake, goes to wakeboard camps and competitions. I have a 400 lb. bladder in the ski locker to help with wake but it is still not that big and soft on the tops. I have briefly driven an Air Nautique, 22V, MB 210 Boss and passengered in a 22VE. My son also likes to water ski and use his wake skate and tubing is done minimally.
The Tige I felt was the most impressive in handling and wake size and shape of the three tested. At most there would be 5-6 people in the boat usually 2 plus a rider. I have been looking at the 20V as an affordable step up that would give GREAT wakes without ballast support; I would like to keep it simple. Docking is on an inside berth which makes maneuvering with a V Drive difficult, especially backing up. I think that is probably one of my bigger concerns. I have done some reviews of previous threads about the 20V and 22V comparison already. Are the wakes of sufficient size to allow my son to get enough air time to start learning back rolls and tantrums without adding bladders. I think the fuel economy will be as good or better on the 20V probably as my 130 HP Evinrude FITCH with the bladder. This whole search started early last year after my 15 year old son came back from camp and informed me our wake sucked compared to the 22V. I thought it was a load of bull until I drove it and saw for myself; ever since then I've wanted perfect pass, heater, shower, platform, more room, versatility and large wakes. The wife is almost convinced which was a huge hurdle since our boat only has 90 hours on it. Your opinions on the 20V or other options would really be appreciated. I don't want this to be another "If I had it to do over again" syndrome. Thanks in advance
