    First Boat?

    Dudes,
Been lurking for a while on many forums, and finally posting up:

Just moved to an area where we can't find a friend with a surf boat. So now, my wife and I are poised to buy one. we want the best bang for our buck and are looking for a boat that we can surf and grow in to. What do you all think of this?

    1999 21v Rider's Edition, 500 hours

We're looking to surf and cruise. It'll be my amazing wife and I and any friends we can bring. The research I've done says this boat can surf and give us a great wave. Perhaps we'll grow out of it in a couple years? But it seems to me that a v-drive won't depreciate a ton more...maybe if we grow out of it we'll be able to sell it for a reasonable price?

I'd love thoughts from this forum. I've done a 21v search and it looks like there's a great surf wake and plenty of people that love their 99-02 21v's

    Thanks, KC

We bought our '02 21V in April of '14. It is our first in board and wanted to surf like you. The regular foot wave is better and easier to dial in than the goofy. I have 2 custom sacs that are from the previous owner that are about 400lb a piece. I can stack them in the surf side locker but if I fill the second all the way the cover won't close.....anyway the locker is full of water. I'm guessing that is about 750 lb. We have 5 young kids that all sit in the corner but that isn't much more weight. About 260 lb. The regular foot side likes 11mph and the goofy side 10.5. We are beginners but like the boat. It is very roomy...with a price point that gets us in the game. It's great for cruising and handles well. Ours had 275 hrs on it and now has 400 hrs...easy to maintain. Good luck.

Love mine. Have had it for 4 summers with only minor issues. I have the regular (port) side surf wave pretty dialed in now. Check out my post about my ballast system. We run TAPS at around 2-4 and around 10.4 to 11mph depending on who is riding. It's a great, solid, roomy boat for the money that I absolutely love. Just make sure it's mechanically sound and the price is right for you.

Took her for a spin today. Vinyl looks brand new, monster tower was super sturdy. Engine fired immediately and sounded and ran great. The dealer was not very knowledgeable...took the boat on trade for a pontoon. There's a tsunami pump wired under the dash, but we couldn't figure out what for. Two ballast bags in the locker, but neither were plumbed. I'd add perfect pass and upgrade the ballast.

The speedo shows only 75 hours. According to the dealer, the previous owner put it at 300 hours. Is there a way to find out?

They're asking $18k. Thoughts? Seems reasonable...

Last question- a friend warned me to walk away due to Tige's use of wood stringers. Is this a real concern?

            Thanks!

they can pull the hours of the ECM to find out true hours on the boat

i would think maybe a tad lower but still not a bad deal

ill be nice about this..... the stringers and floor is totally encased in glass if that boat even had wood in it someone will probably chime in on this to correct me but i believe 99 was the first year of all glass contruction. Even if it wasnt it doesnt matter my 97 has lived outside 100% of its life until i got it half of it uncovered and i dont have a single soft spot in the floor and sure dont have a soft spot in the stringers i checked very well before purchase so i say with certainty these boats are built as solid as a rock!!! i watched an older mastercraft crack his hull trying to follow me through very rough waters on lake conroe and mine didnt make a sound! tiges are some of the best boats ever made in my opinion. and they have some of the nicest and most helpfull owners out there

Glad to hear it has a Monter Tower. I have one on my 21v and it is a huge upgrade from the stock tower. Check the TAPS system if possible to make sure that is working (it's the trim tab on the back of the boat). Don't worry about the stringers, as Chads said they are all totally covered in fiberglass and sealed right up. My 99 21v is as solid as a rock. Check for leaking fluids in the bilge and make sure it is clean down there.
If there are no major vibrations during your water test, I would say that rig is pretty solid. 18k is pretty close to being on point with a trailer. A friend of mine paid 16k for his last season but it needed some work.

H20Sk8ter-Where you at this your boat LOL....
You will love this boat, I learned to surf behind this boat and ultimately (along with many others on here) is the reason I bought a Tige. The wave is great, I mean I would put against some of the newer boats as a comparison. You could work with MLA (Mike Liquid Audio) to get you setup.
My life's journey is not ending up looking pretty, its sliding in broadside, used up, worn out, screaming "What a Ride"
