Where are you staying at and how long? There is a lot to do. Are you planning lake only or going to Branson too?

Ok I am from kimberling city area but have some friends that live up that way. I know this weekend is a wakeboard tournament, several restaurants and the dewy short visitor center. You can also go on a tour of re table rock dam. I will do some more checking for the time your in town and update the thread.

From Kimberling City head up towards Shell Knob area. If you get hungry there is a Pizza Hut by the Shell Knob bridge that has a dock and a long walk up the hill. The coves up the Lake towards SH\hell Knob are great for watersports. There is an island halfway up the lake to Shell Knob that is great for anchoring off of and swimming etc. Long stretches of lake in this area tend to be calmer and can be glass during the week. Enjoy.

Captainkurk... When and where is this tournament? I frequent the Baxter to shell knob area of the lake weekly and haven't seen or heard anything about it.. Would like to take the kids to watch if it's not too far down on the Branson/longcreek side.. I know years ago when Bruce was running the skiers wharf pro shop out of the kimberling dock, he used to put on tourneys at cow creek back by the slalom course..

Whoops... Just saw the date on your post... I bet you were talking about empire wake's boardfest at Rock lane resort... How did it go? We ended up doing the Shriners poker run on the shell knob end.. It was a blast.. Burnmac, are you bringing a boat or plan to rent? There is lots of fun to be had in this area.

The rope swing/cliff close to point 10 has always been a popular place to hangout for us. You will ever right (north) as you head west from the Kimberling City bridge rather than left (south) towards Baxter/Shell Knob. Though, with the high water I'm not even sure the "swang" will be usable. We will be there next week (the week before you) and plan to meet some friends there so we can report back if needed.

Cows creek (long cove on south side of main channel between Indian point and Kimberling city bridge) is a great morning ski/board spot. Usually fairly respectful boats back there in the AM. Also, some great golf courses down there if you're looking for off water stuff too. Check out Ledgestone... Underrated in my opinion. The Bearded Clam recently rebranded (don't recall name) into something else and - I believe - is one of the few bars/restaurants available on the water (other than the Pizza Hut previously mentioned, though, that will be a real haul from your location).

I frequent the the Baxter area too and unfortunately the last two times I have broke down. That place is bad mojo for me. I checked with a friend that lives there and their kids compete. She said she didn't know of anything at TRL the rest of the year. Rock Lane Resort and Marine Max host the events which is up by the Dam. You can go to either ones website to see what events they have. I remember Bruce and skiers wharf quite well. Miss that little shop but the new shop is nice too.

The best part of Table Rock is that it is a quiet lake compared to lake of the ozarks so there is not as many bars and big boats. In the area you are staying you have The Dewey Short visitor Center where you can see the history of Table Rock. My kids are 11 & 14 and they like visiting at least once year. You can also pay and tour the Dam. Restaurants (& Bar) are Big Cedar Lodge, Rock Lane Resort & Marina, Showboat Branson Belle, Floating Cafe (Indian Point), Sharkey's Pizza, Coyotes Dockside Cafe and The Rocks Lakeside Grill. These are in order from close to you to Kimberling City. There are more as you go further west toward Shell Knob or Cape Fair. There are also gas docks all along the way so you can make the long run from State Park Marina to Shell Knob and not worry about getting home. Gas is usually just a little over a $1.00 extra per gallon than gas stations. There are a set of cliffs that people love to jump from near you and then another set by Kimberling City. They are along the bluff as you turn left and start to see the Kimberling City Bridge. you will see a big blue glass building that looks like a commercial office building but that is Robert W. Plasters house. There is a nice yellow house on the bluff that has a patio extending out over the lake. It is neat to look at and just close that house is where the jumping bluffs are. ****The lake is up so bluffs are not as high and great for the kids. PLEASE NOTE: do not jump from just any set of bluffs. Table Rock is loaded with trees along the bank and its not safe to jump. Be sure to ask someone or look for the others jumping. ALSO because the lake is up be sure to stay from the bank because of the trees just below water level and can take a prop quick. There is also a lot of debris floating and I have recently see twice whole trees floating.
Spring Branch Cove is a good place to go and wakeboard or wakesurf and deep into the cove is a great place to find glass and anchor for lunch and swim. Big Cow Creek is where the party cove is. I have never gone as I always have my kids with me. Little Cow Creek is another good place to go and has a slalom course. These coves are all about ~25min by boat pending your speed. Then past Kimberling City you have the Baxter area which is nice but is a good ride from State Park Marina. Another fun place is "Then Swing" which is a rope swing hanging down from the tall bluffs. People also hike to the top and jump off of. If the lake is still up by August then its not worth the run cause it will like be too close to the water. Lake Level: Lake level is currently 972 which is very high for us. I would call wherever it is you are staying and make sure you have access to a ramp and dock. Many public ramps are closed and docks are so far out that you have swim to them. The Corp of Engineers has stated this week that they do not plan to open the flood gates till October and levels will likely stay high through the summer. Hope this helps and sorry if if too long. Be sure get a good map so you know the coves and places mentioned are. Have a great trip.

Cows creek is a great cove when boat traffic in it is light. If your heading towards the dam from cows creek the is a long cove on the right that is fairly sheltered and usually is calm during the week. Typically very light traffic and since it is wide and long it accommodates traffic better than cows creek. Does cow creek still have the Slalom course in it at the back end? I know there used to be two more courses I think 1 by Baxter Marina but can't remember the third. it has been a while since we visited that great lake. It and Bullshoals are our favorite reservoir lakes and are worth the extra 3 hours travel time from LOA. We loved that quite and calm of the lake during the week. Typically we would avoid the main lake on TOL on Friday late afternoon when the cruisers and houseboats start cruising the lake for their weekend spots.

yes slalom course is still in Little Cow Creek. The next cove towards dam is Big Cow Creek (party cove in back) and the next is Spring Branch. spring branch is popular with the wakeboarders. Yes there is anothe slalom in Baxter and I don't know where the third is but there is one. I usually spend my time either at Spring Branch or Black Oak Moumtain resort (Baxter) cove. I am the 05 22v white with big black stripe and red Bimini. I am always anchored in either of those coves during lunch time. Stop if you ever see me.

3rd slalom is in brushy creek just south of hwy 86 bridge at long creek.. Across lake from Gage's Marina, which is now owned by bass pro shops.. I am always in the Baxter area as we launch at the big Indian ramp.. 03 tige with a white tower and black and green monster energy wrap..
