Taps gauge not working right - ideas?

My 08 Z1 Taps2 guage has stopped working. The taps plate moves up and down as it should but the gauge bounces around and often gets stuck on 8. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this thing?

I would check the wires on both the back of the gage and on the taps motor. Pull them and check to make sure all your connections are ok. Get your test light/multimeter, power and ground check for corrosion.

There's a similar thread recently on here.

Disconnect the green wires on the gauge and use a multimeter to check the resistance across the range. Should be smooth and predictable.
If not speak to Bennett as there is a repair kit.

Does hitting the gauge make it settle? If so you need a new gauge. Can be had cheaply on the internet(forgot where)

There is a sensor in the actuator that goes out. Is it pegged to 8 or just staying at the 1 reading? Mine is currently pegged at 8 but the taps still works. If it is the sensor then you have to replace the actuator.
If its not fun, Why do it?

Fairly sure you can replace the sensor bit if you speak to Bennett. Whether it works out much cheaper I have no idea.

I had same problem and am waiting for my replacement parts now.... This is the test procedure I got for my 01 21v. I would think the actuators are the same. Disconnect the 2 green wires from back of gauge, hook an ohmmeter to the wires. The coil resistance should be between 220 and 260 ohms. If not, then Bennett sells a "upper coil hinge kit" to repair it. If it meters ok then you have a gauge issue.

Is that the extended or retracted resistance?

It doesnt matter, you are just mearuring the resistance of the coil

Further to my problem. The problem is only when the boat is in water and driving. I tested it dry on the trailer today and it works fine. Hmmm.
