The family and another couple with kids are looking at a four day get away to the Flaming Gorge in southern Wy/ northern Utah and would love some insight if there is anyone that has ever stayed there before. We're looking at either a cabin, motel, or anything close for accommodations to the lake. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Couple options depending upon if you want to camp or not. I have only camped, but in Manila,UT there is the Vacation Inn that a couple friends stayed at while we were there this past weekend. They had no complaints, but I didn't really ask them how it was. Of course there is also Flaming Gorge resort. This would put you closer to the Dam, and easier access if you want to float the Green River when not boating. Manila would put you more on open water than closer to the Dam - but either way not really an issue. Manila put's you near Sheep Creek bay which usually has smooth water. I'll ask about Vacation Inn and post if I find out anything negative.
If you camp, there's a good KOA in Manila, and we usually camp at Firefighters campground - only downside is that you have to go down the road to another CG for showers...but there is running water and flush toilets at Firefighters.

We have stayed at the Red Canyon lodge a few times. It's not to far from the boat ramps. http://www.redcanyonlodge.com/"Failing to prepare is preparing to fail" John Wooden- Rest in Peace

I pretty much grew up on this lake. Spent every summer up there from the time my grandfather figured i could hold a fishing rod. I personally would stay in manilla. I would see about the cabins next to the villa. I say that because then your more central in regards to the lake... meaning if your more damn side its a heck of a boat ride to get to the wyoming side from red cliff lodge. To me personally the best boating on the lake is on the wyoming side. but the most scenic by far is on the trek to the damn and horse shoe canyon. And this time of year you can plan on a storm every afternoon on the utah sheep creek side by 2-3pm. so always keep your eyes westerly and an eye on things.2011 Tigé RZ4

Thanks for all the replies fellas. Camping will be out of the question as I don't want to pull both the trailer and the boat, so we'll be looking for accommodations this trip. Wakeriden, what are the cabins next to the villa you speak of?? I'd like to check that out. Thanks"Charlie don't surf"
