So I have been lurking for many years but I'm finally ready to buy an inboard! (Peak season great timing! )

So I have been looking at the older tiges as my budget is under 30k and I have found a few on Craig's list that I'm interested in.

My question is what problems/issues on the older 2004 models do I need to be looking for? Any help would be greatly appreciated

If it has original vinyl, even if its in good shape, the seams will likely pull away the first season on the seat bottoms. The seat backs should be ok, I still have all the original seat back but I replaced all the seat bottoms on mine. The vinyl guy told me the backing they used in that era was not stretchy enough and it would cause the vinyl to rip at he seams over time.

2004 if it has the Penske composite sticker doesn't have any wood and uses composite materials. I think all 2004s are composite. 2004 would be throttle by cable so you can use perfect pass if it doesn't already have it. If you have the Marine Power 6L motor, you will want to look up Dom's overheating mod that will fix it.

I love my 2004 24V! I really think the 22V and 24Vs of that era you get a heck of a boat for your money. Good luck!

Well my kids are 2 and 4 so I'm hoping to get a boat they can grow into. Usually we have 4 adults and 2 -4 children. I wake board some but am trying to learn to surf , I would say 20% wakeboard surf, 40% kids tubing Etc. and the rest riding and socializing (we love to go to dinner as a family by water.

Also I mistyped earlier , I am look at most boats older than 04, does anyone know what year the stopped making the wood stringers mentioned above? My friend had an old supra and I don't want his problem , what a mess

After I bought my first boat, a 2002 Tige 21V, I spent the next couple of years defending that Tige never had a wood stringer failure, and I am still not sure I have seen one. Then they switched to composite and I felt sort of disappointed initially after preaching how wood was OK. Although the composite stringers are probably better, they were probably cheaper, and Tige got tired of taking heat from competitors saying wood stringers would fall apart in 5 years. The wood was completely encapsulated in fiberglass, so a failure is going to be extremely rare. Maybe someone can dig up a thread about a wood stringer failure, but I can't remember one off of the top of my head.

I think a 2004 24V is the sweet spot and would be a great boat to have, but don't be afraid if you had to drop down to an earlier model 23V due to wanting to keep in your budget.

I have a 97 2150 that is the glass encased wood stringer and I can tell you mine are solid as a rock and so is my floor its part wood with glass resign or sometime on top of it and the boat was always kept outside so if it's not hurt I wouldn't worry about finding one that isn't all glass to stay in your budget

I found a 1999 2100 for 16,500$ is that a reasonable price? I know it's smaller than what I was wanting but with the money I'll save I could upgrade my dock(might be the better plan with my kids so young?) . Anyone have any experience trying to surf behind one of these? Thanks again and sorry for all the questions

considering thats just a tad higher then i would ask for my 97 i think its a pretty decent price and you could probably get them down some but i believe this boat will still have a pretty low freeboard so be careful if your lake gets really choppy you can take a wave over the bow our lake is bulkheaded and has a ton of cruisers running around and can turn into an ocean almost and ive taken a wave over the bow a time or two

I think that 16,500 is a fair price for a 1999 2100v as long as it is a v-drive. You just said 2100 so I was unsure if it is DD or v-drive.

I have a 1999 21v which is the same hull. Great boat for wakeboarding and can put out a very solid wave with the right kind of weight. I couldn't think of a better boat in that era for all around water sports.

I had a custom surf sac made for my port side locker and under the seat which probably ends up being around 1000-1200 pounds. That plus 300lbs up front, speed 10.5 and taps around 2-3 and the wave is killer. I'll attach a couple pics.

So depending on if it is a v drive or DD will make all the difference. If looking to surf v drive is the only way to go IMO. More info on the boat would be very helpful plus pictures.

If it is a v-drive it should have the deep v hull, which will sit MUCH higher in the water than the 21 foot direct drive. My friend had a 2002 22i and that was the hull that sat low in the water. My 21v is the deeper hull with higher freeboard - night and day difference. I go to parts of the lake that he wouldn't even attempt. He has since upgraded to my identical 21v and loves it.

Wow great looking wave ! I'll keep you guys posted my father will look at it tomorrow , if everything checks out I'll head up and look at it this weekend , getting pretty fired up to finally get in a v drive

FYI I never realized what a pia a I/o is with little ones ! I feel like I'm constantly yelling for the kids to swim away from the prop !

oh ok wastn to sure about that if they ran the deaper v or not. dont get me wrong i love my boat its an awesome boat havent tried surfing it yet but will one day the only thing i dont like is the low free board ive had it in some pretty hairy situations before i got caught in a storm with close to 3 foot waves trying to make it back to dock and i really thought i was gonna sink it i kept taking so many wave over the bow finally had to just turn and run the otherway heading with the waves but we are starting to go to a different lake that is alot calmer so no more worries about that for me

if its a v drive i would say thats a pretty good price im not sure where you are but down here in texas that boat would be in the 20s when i insured my boat it booked at 16900 with out tower and all that all together if something happened to it i would get a check for around 20k and i would be the proud new owner of a tige V-drive very very shortly after lol
