My key fell in the water! Help!

Hey guys, so just got to havasu lake for the weekend and put the boat in the water. As I go park the trailer, I get a call from my buddy panicking that the key ring we had on the floaty broke open and all the keys fell on the dock. The good news, all the keys survived except one. The bad news, the one was the boat key! So thankfully I he my spare, but now curious about getting a copy. How does that work as simple as just getting a copy or do these newer keys have a chip or something like car keys do?

Any info would be awesome. It's for a '13 Z1. Also how about getting a factory key done, is that expensive? Dealer only? Etc.

No chips the ignitions are pretty primitive. A well stocked hardware store will have a blank.

Call a nearby dealer. I don't know about expense, but my dealer tells me not to worry about a key when I bring my boat in for service as they always have plenty. I suspect that Tige does not use a lot of different patterns.

Good thing you had your spare. Whenever we go on holidays I always make sure to bring a spare set of truck & boat keys in case something like this happens. If there's no chip then you can just get one cut anywhere I'm sure.

I made copies for my keys at Home Depot and/or Lowes. They had blanks for the ignition and glove box. They did not have th small key for the rear compartments, but i called the dealer and they sent me two of those.
