    Ideal Surf Wave?

So I might be a bit confused on what the ideal surf wave is....I have seen a few comments that indicate you do not want the wave to "collapse" or roll over like you see on an ocean wave...is this true? Do you want to try and keep the lip on a surf wave from turning into a roller?

I'm just trying to figure out what the ideal looking surf wave is for behind a boat so I have a base picture of what to try and make mine look like...

    It really is personal preference.

I like a wave that is very clean right up to and even over the lip. You want it to stay clean like that back as far as possible. Other people want more of a lip. I find when the wave rolls over it will catch my back leg and slow me down. So you want that fairly far back.

Here is a random pic of a wave I would like.

From my experience, the height of the wave is determined by the weight of your boat (particularly the rear), the length is determined by the speed of your boat (or can be augmented with TAPS or bow weight or AVX), and the curl / cleanliness is determined by the amount of list. So if it is frothy, add more list to the surf side. If it is small, add more weight. If it is too long, slow down or vice versa.

Here are a few of my wave, johnnie has it spot on though it's all rider preference. If you look at the wave for me (I am the giant guy) it's long and flat with a good curl because that is my style I just want to cruise. My girlfriend on the hand likes a steep long wave with no curl and you can really see the difference between the 2 waves. Good luck, your best bet is play around with weight and ride them all.

Thanks guys, the visuals are helping....I need to play around and lengthen the wave a bit I think..I feel like I have plenty of height but the pocket seems really small compared to some..

Speed up a bit, thats the easieest way to lengthen the wave!

I like a clean face with curl as far back as possible. I'm better with a long gradual ramp than a super steep tall one. I've been riding faster to get a longer wave as @Greeko mentioned.

^^^^^Nice Wave there^^^^^^ That is one thing I forgot to mention in my post. My speed is closer to 11, where as my girlfriend likes a longer, steeper so she surfs closer to 13. Some will say not to play with the taps to much, but for me I found it rough chop which is the majority of time when we surf taps needs to be a 4-5 where as early morning when its glassy run a little more 2-3 to add some length that would normally get blown out by the chop. I am still playing around a bit with mine, as we are really new to surfing and this is our first surf boat. I am sure it differs boat to boat, what boat are you working with by the way?

Ahhhh sweet my buddy has the same boat. That boat needs to be around 14-15 to really clean up nice but when it does it's an awesome wave. He has the same bow sac and 1100 in the rear corners. Taps at 0-1. H20sk8ter is his tag he is on here now and then hit him up or PM he can give you more details.
