Hello all, I have a 2009 22ve that came with a Road Runner trailer. IMO the trailer is junk. What Im about to explain to you is not the trailers fault BUT I figure its best to let you know what kind of trailer we are dealing with here.

I had a blow out on the way home from the lake yesterday. Tire came completely off rim. Thank god it did not touch boat!! It did however ruin my fender. These are my questions if yall would not mind letting me pick your brain.

1. Does anyone know where I could get a matching fender?

2. The rim and tire combo on this trailer sure does look nice but are horrible to maintain, can I get standard trailer tires and rims to fit this trailer?

3. Is there anyway possible to get a new matching rim for current trailer if I decide to keep current rim/tires?

4. Last resort, where is a good place to just plain get a better trailer?? I honestly think the RR trailers are flimsy...

Welcome to the RR haters club. I've had some work done to my trailer too, but I haven't had a blow out. Were they the original tires? What PSI did you keep them at? It sounds like you had low profile tires too, I've got the normal 14" wheels on mine, in sure you can find some online at trailer parts online retailers.

Check the welds often on the RR trailer, I've had to get a few repaired. I'll get into the details later, right now I'm heading out to see Jurasic park.

I would change the remaining 3 tires as they could easily be 8 years old. Moot point of you get a whole new trailer or 4 new wheels for current trailer.

Contact roadrunner for fender, if they are still in biz.

A standard 14" trailer wheel would likely work, just need to confirm the bolt pattern.

It would be s stretch that that wheel manufacturer is still producing that same wheel 6 years later. if its a chrome or aluminum wheel, you need to see who the manufacturer is.

Ewok, yes I have the low profile tires. I kept them at 45 pounds. They appear to be in good shape other then the blow out.

I have repaired 3 welds on my RR trailer....I SURE DO keep an eye on them. Id bet Ill be fixing more in the future.

chpthril, Im certain the tires are original. When I bought the boat it had at max 500 miles on the tires even tho it was that old. From all appearances they look fine, prob have 3000 miles on them now, no dry rot or anything. Been stored in garage its whole life.

IF I did say screw it and buy a new trailer will Boat Mate sell directly to me or is it a dealer thing??

If it was your trailer and you were replacing the rims and tires would you keep low profile or go with standard rims and tires?

On one side or the other, there will be a 4 digit julian date code. it will show how old the tires actually are.

Dont know but good chance you would have to go through a boatmate dealer

im not a frue frue kinda guy, so my trailer wouldnt have had fancy wheels to start with In all seriousness, the one real problem with low-pro tines is wheel damage if the tired is "curb'd" so to speak. Without knowing or seeing more, its hard to attribute your blowout to it being a low-pro tire, age or road hazard.

Im gonna guess and say age and road hazard...def no curb damage.

Are Boat Mate trailers worth the money? Only reason I ask is because I just looked at a pic on line and it appears to be the same design..

This is what Im thinking at this point:

Option 1. Get all new tires and find a cheap rim/tire to use as spare since one of my rims is torn up from the road now.

Option2. Get brand new trailer...obvi this would be more expensive but I would not have to worry about the RR trailer anymore, altho it seams to be doing fine now that I have fixed its weak points.

Option 3. Get 5 new rims and tire that are not low profile BUT Im not sure if its possible to have it look proper with the fenders, as in the wheel looking like its to far back...does that make sense?? Does anyone know if it can be done and not look very strange???

my boat has a dorsey trailer under it one of the best boat trialers ever made in my opinion never had a single problem with them!! now as far as wheels and tires you may not see the deteriation of the tire but its there and the rest are soon to follow so it is a wise idea to replace them you can go to discount tire and they can hook you up with just about any trailer tire and wheel combination you want they can measure the bolt patern and back spacing and get you the right ones that who i use for all my wheels and tires on anything i run carlisle trailer tires but thats just me now for my opinion i wouldnt replace the trailer due to cost and just how likely is it to have a failure of some sort that would cause you to damage the boat as long as you keep an eye on everything but ive also never had a RR trailer to i dont know just how poorly they are designed and constructed but if i was you i would just go down to discount tire check out some trailer tires and see what they can come up with if they dont have anything you like then check into replacing wheels and tires but i would assume just getting a new set of tires would be ok and replace them every 6 years as most tire manufactures recomend regardless of how it looks or how many miles are on it.
