    Steering cable ???

I'm having my steering cable replaced and the mechanic thinks that he needs to drop the v-drive which I think crazy and expensive. I think the old cable is stuck and he can't get it out (couldn't hear well as I was in an airport). But, if I remember from other posts that I can't find now, he should just cut it and put the new one on top of the fuel tank. Any advice or help?

Yes, he should just cut it and run the new cable over the fuel tank. It's a real PITA to get the 1-1/8" nut off the old cable, maybe that's why he thinks he needs to drop the V-Drive.

Have him look at this thread for tips on getting the old cable out:

Cut the cable and pull out the front, then feed new cable over the tank, mine wasn't hard at all. Might need to enlarge the hole in floor to feed the new cable easier
