    2015 RZ2 surf wake help

    Hey all,

I just received my 2015 RZ2, and can't get the best surf wake. It's decent but I'm sure it can be a lot better. I have 1100 pound ballasts in each rear corner and factory 400# on each side in the bow. I had the bow full on both side, surf side 100% and non surf side 25%. Taps was at 4 and AVX 7, speed was 11.4 MPH. Am I going to fast?

Some others with the Rz2 will chime in but I have better luck with around 75-80% front offside ballast and run 10.6-10.8 with taps 4 on my 15 Z3 without AVX. Obviously a little different boat wise but might try this. If I run over 10.8-11 it seems to not have as much push and height which is what it should do. The length is there just not the push and you have to work more to stay in it.

      You need more weight man.

Fill the counter weight to 60% then drain off until you clean her up and list at 7-8%.
I have the Z3 and she needed a at least 300 of lead underneath the stock sack..So i got custom sacks for her that take 1600 lbs. The wave is much better.

I run my speed at 11.4-12 depending on the rider, taps at 2-3, avx at 7-10

Don't you find your pocket is way too short at this speed?

You need more weight in the back corner!!

Thanks JLG, I'll try and slow it down a bit and take some out of the bow on the non surf side. I have read by a different member that the AVX should be at 4. I don't think I need more in the rear as I have more than the surf XL package???

I thought I read that AVX loved 11.6 or 11.8 when the Coanda effect kicks in (but that might have been Z3 specific).

Search out Ragboy's comments at how TAPS is like a half step for AVX number. This might lead you to combo numbers that play better together.

What brand of underwater lights are they?

They're shadow casters under water lights.

Yes pocket is a bit short but I am no pro nor will I be. I like having the push and extra height. I know the boat needs or could use more weight as its normally just my wife and I, but as I've said before I can't afford to lose anymore storage space as we have small kids also. When we have guests onboard the wave is perfect!

I totally get what you're saying. I have added lead underneath the sacks and got bigger sacks. I havent lost very much storage and the wave has improved significantly. I will upload pics of the wave soon.

I would add the lead but I slalom ski every time the boat is out so don't want the extra weight as its a steep enough wake at 34! If we could only figure out how to invite friends onboard for "ballast" purposes and not have to spend all day teaching we would be in a win win!!

Does anyone with a RZ2 have any input on getting a nice wave??

Looks like you are getting wash from the starboard side. My suggestion is to start simple, just the surf side rear at 100% full and 10.6 to 10.8 mph and adjust your AVX up and down and see how it affects it. After that, start adding weight to the other bags 1 at a time so you can get a sense of what that additional weight does to the wave starting with 10% in the starboard and then add some to the surf side bow, etc.

Thanks Timmy for the advise, I'll try that on Friday.

                              Heres what works for mine.

                              2014 RZ2
                              Taps at 5
                              Speed is 10.6
Rear side 100% full (I have the Pro ballast)
Another 400 pound sack on the back seat.
                              All adults on one side.
                              I don’t have AVX.

Its a short steep wave and needs additional length. If anyone knows how to accomplish that Im all ears. I have tried running front ballast but I have never had good luck with it so I don’t ever bother.
