Were the thieves apprehended? Hopefully they will spend several years, but seems like most get slapped on the wrist and right back at it!

I had a couple 19-20 yr old kids break into my RV a few years back in the middle of the night at my storage. There were 5-6 RVs in that storage facility and it is open faced storage with no fence but in a small town with no known issues. They kicked in a 12x12 bathroom skylight and slid their small girlfriend through to let them in. They needed a place to party and "do it" as one later told me.

I turned it in to the local sheriff dept on Fri night that weekend and they seemed less than interested to do anything. I took it upon myself to knock on a couple doors of the local neighbors and got lucky that the one had thrown a party a few nights before and the other neighbor told me that. With that info I knew which house had info so beat on their door waking them up. They had a 16yr old son I figured he was involved and basically accused him and said the sheriff would be by to ask him questions if he didn't cooperate. Needless to say it wasn't him but 2 of his friends and he threw them under the bus within a few hours of me leaving.

He called me with their info said they wanted to make it right blah blah blah. I said have em call and once they called I recorded the conversations. They promised to pay etc, and I was up in the air on it until I asked around, and the one kid had stole his moms wedding ring and pawned it. and was on probation for it!! Of course this enraged me and I turned it over to the police and prosecuted them. Only 1K worth damage, but I have no tolerance for theft or thieves!! It took them over a year to pay me back for it also!! If it weren't for my persistence the lazy A## sheriffs dept would've never looked into it!

I can definitely relate to what your buddy is going through and hope they get him a boat asap as summer is slipping away.

I think they found the boat. Not sure if the link will work.

Oops. Looks like I'm a little late to the party.

@JLG - Yeah, I'm with you on that. There is only a few things worse than stealing other people's things. I had a brand new dirt bike stolen a few years ago - the only thing the sheriff cared about was how fast it was.

Never found the bike - and insurance screwed me over on that one too (that's another story)...

Supposedly there was so much heat on the boat they decided to try to bury the thing (no really, bury). They were about halfway through burying it when the Sheriffs showed up. Not sure if its totaled yet. Thanks again!
I wonder if they will replace the boat
