    Stress cracks

I have had my Tige 22v for a little over two years and this past week I just noticed several stress cracks. The cracks are by the front cup holder near the radio / glove box. I have 3 cracks running towards the windshield. The other one is near the fuel tank gas cap which runs from it to the transom. The other crack is on the transom behind the engine cover. I have not contacted Tige yet but I intend to. I too, contacted my dealer and was told it was not covered under warranty.

This is my first boat purchased and my first Tige. It maybe my last as well.

I maybe a new boat owner but I don't believe I am rough on it by any means. I never leave it in the water overnight, I never beach it like some people do. I know precisely how deep to have the trailer when loading it so that it loads without much effort.

I was intending to sell it this next month and buy another new one at the spring boat show but now I don't know if I will buy another Tige or not. If they have a known issue with stress cracks like this I might just look to another manufacturer for my next ski/ wakeboard boat.

      Ruune,

You may be right. I never hit the dock too hard though, but sometimes the rollers come in when I am against the dock and I can get a little love tap despite having my protectors out. I am often at a small lake and no one here seems to understand the no wake zone.

      Terri,

I am not sure that I would get too excited about the stress cracks yet. I think that when you look at the number of people who do not have stress cracks, you'll see that those posted here are in the small minority. Where mine are located are indeed suspicous for some poor dock management skills.
      Be excellent to one another.

As written up above the cracks are from flexing. The problem is...Everything flexes (big or small). Our boats get stressed and they flex, They have to or they would split open. Our Gel coat is harder than the fiberglass thus when you have two different materials they flex at different amounts, resulting in the cracks you see. These are not life threatening nor are they a hull issue, they are in fact the nature of the beast.
Changing boat manufaturers will not get rid of this problem they all have it. My Sea Ray always would get them running parallel to the hull in different locations. I would get then ground out then repaired with a gel coat patch.

My thought on these is they are about as serious as a stone chip in your paint, or flex crack on your bumper of your car. Something you don't like to see but is easily repaired.

I could kick this to death but I think I said enough.
