    Grand Canyon South Rim accomodations

Looks like the 2015 Lake Mead Tige event is shaping up. Not sure what shape yet, but its shaping So, we are looking to leave out Sunday and head to the Grand Canyon for a couple of days, before heading back to Vegas. Looking for suggestions/ referrals on where to stay and where to eat. We dont need a 5-star hotel, but a clean room is nice We dont eat fancy fru fru food, just looking for good food and good service.

Also, what are the grocery shopping options in that area. do we need to stock up on soda, water, beer/wine, snacks, lunches, etc, before leaving paved roads

Also, any suggestions on any particular sights to see, mild trails to hike or any to steer clear of.

    Thanks,

Mike, we've always taken the toy hauler so our experiences are the RV parks. The little town of Williams is way cool. It's about 45 minutes south of the GC. It is right on I40 and has direct access to the train that heads into the park. It is a stereotypical Route 66 town. Nice little bars, restaurants, and the such. The place to stay in Williams is the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, http://www.thetrain.com/lodging/the-...railway-hotel/. As far as staying in the park, haven't heard a bad thing about any of the hotel/motels. Make sure to wake up before sunrise at least one morning and get to the rim! Amazing!

The train from williams to to the GC takes about 2 hours, what about actual drive time by car?
