My rpm gauge was removed by the previous owner and I am trying to re install. I don't know which plug goes into which port as they are both the same just different color wires. can someone help out?

One plug is power and the other is the sensor side and neither should be interchangeable. It looks like the horizontal female side on the gauge has four pins in it so connect the four wire male side there and the two wire is power, connect that to the vertical after verifying there are only two pins in the female side.Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine... -
Each side has 4 wires- 1 has blk,red, 2 whites, other one has 3 purple and 1 gray, each one has 4 pinsComment

Yup, the purple is keyed power so the other two wire in the four wire harness should be for dash lights.Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...Comment

I know this because I was trouble shooting my speedometer today actually. The plug with the 2 power, ground, and input is the "smaller connector socket"
