2015 PRE AVX VX angle update

This year I had the update done for the 2015 vx angle which was much steeper. I was hoping to go to this angle for better wake quality and less weight. Trying to get it to be as big and easy as my 24V once was. The VX has allowed me to make a longer wake with the old angle but was not as big.

Anyway, long story short... The last few weekends i have been hating life trying to tune it to make a big wake like I once had with the old vx angle with same weight. I was just banging my head thinking with a steeper angle why was the wake so crappy compared to my old wake. Anyways just had to take a step back from the forrest a bit to see the trees. As I was surfing on saturday i noticed that the vx was not even touching the water so there for it is not doing the job and no coanda effect. Keep in mind it has been since September since I have surfed last. So first I started playing with the taps cause I was not able to use any setting other than 1 or else the wake would wash... got much bigger but would wash. While surfing I noticed tha tthe vx would drop into the water under taps 8 and the wake would get massiv but the wash would taked you out if to far back. Speed is 10.8 as I always surf 10.8 to 11 mph on all my boats.

So later that evening I was just thinking and then it hit me. My problem had nothing to do with weight or taps setting. I do not have Zero off as I have the standard paddle wheel. THe paddle wheel is very sesitive to weight load. When we load for wakeboarding the speed would always have to be verified with GPS as it would change so much as to how far the boat was sitting in the water. Bingo... Next day took the GPS out and with the new VX angle my normal 10.8 mph on the speed set is actually 13.2 mph. Since I have not been surfing in many months I just thought that I was really rusty and things felt faster than normal but was Ok cause wake was super hard and easy to do spins on and such. Just wake was a bit shorter than I was used to.

So I slowed it down on the speed set to 10 mph which was about 11.5-11.7 and all was good with the world again. The wake ramped up and I had my lip that I was looking for.

If you have the new angle on the VX, verifity your speed to GPS as it could be way off as mine is. It really sucks the boat down in the water throwing the wheel speed off on high side. The wake will get much taller and maintain length.

I have heard there was an issue with the 14 ASR holding speed with the paddle wheel also. Tige had a recent update where they sent out the GPS puck to fix this issue. The wiring is all there on the ASR other than the pricey puck and it sounds like its a plug and play. Possibly software update but a simple fix. Probably not the same engine as the 14 but same software? Might be something worth checking into with your dealer of even Tige factory.

Yeah the ASR with speed set would struggle holding speed and get tons of prop wash which killed the wake. That was also fixed by using a five blade prop. That wake is killer though when that issue is fixed.

This issue has nothing to do with holding speed. The boat is holding surf speed fine. Wakeboard speed is a different issue but won't go there. This issue is something that plagues all paddle wheels. Not really concerned with it just overlooked it. Now I can account for it. Anytime you sink a paddle wheels further they spin slower reading a slower speed.
