I think that the term was coined by the race boat crowd- for hydroplanes that have two prongs sticking out from the front.

I used the term but never thout about its origin.
My kids love hanging out in the bow, it would be nice to have more space up there but.....
The best part of these boats it the interior space in the cockpit, I sure hope they don't mess with that.
