    2005-2006 Tige 24Ve

    Hey All,

    Some of you who know me know I don't own a Tige'. However, I am ready to upgrade and searching the ends of CA/NV/AZ for a 24Ve. There are quite a few out there and I know there are probably hundreds of Ve' owners on here. So here is my question, I am a pretty good boater and know my way around, but I haven't really crawled into the depths of my friends boats 24v/ve's out of respect, but what are some common things to look for on these boats specifically that could be deal breaker for me or anyone?

    I know there are quite a few owners wish they could swap out their factory cruise control for Perfect Pass.

      Good luck! X2 on team Allen s comments. My research on the 2006 ve I ran across scare me off on the factory cruise. A user here figured out a work around I think it was Dakota. Are you looking at 'v' 's too or just ve?

      I also think. There are some rare early ve boats that had a problem power plant and could be upgraded to perfect pass.

        Just buy a nice 2005 24V with a huge stereo and big ballast and be done with it!

          24v has a slightly better wave also

            Tough to beat the v for surfing, biggest lockers for easiest ballast install, and ability to use perfect pass vs speedset. The only downside I can think of is sloped transom on the v.

              Yep, the workaround is FREAKING AWESOME and ran me $1500 all in. Worth every penny.

              Can't go wrong with either, the V is going to be easier to make into a wave monster, the Ve can get there, just a little bit more messing around. I personally really like the transom area of my Ve, but I would be also very pleased with a V no doubt.

                I found a possible gem, 2006 Tige 24Ve' with 200 hours on it out here in Cali. Looks pretty clean it does have the factory speedset on it, what is the issue with them? I found your boat Bad05, I even called and asked if it was your boat, they don't do trades though so I am kinda SOL on that deal but would love to own it. What are some common issues with this motor if any, Stingreye what do you mean powerplant issues?? Yes I am partial to the Ve because of the walkthrough, but most of my family is goofy so I know room on that side is limited but I have surfed Blackwidows Ve' same year and its a wicked nice wave.

                  Lol that was crazy auto correct on my phone, I. Think it was supposed to say has throttle by wire. It's what prevents perfect pass for the 2006. However Dakota has a great work around.

                    yea I caught up with Dakota on anther thread, thanks for the advice. So what happens the speedset shuts down the throttle fly by wire?

                      I think the main issues with speedset and hopefully someone will correct me on the 2006 is:
                      1) how finely tuned you can dial it in. I can't remember if it's a 0.5 mph or what but I think I remember hearing it was relatively high and only related to 2006. Hopefully someone else will confirm as Ian going off memory and I think that was an advantage of 2007.

                      2) there was a really small led to indicate it was engaged that was tough to see

                      3). It tended to hunt and surge

                      4) expensive to replace the touchpad

                      All of that is off memory though. 2006 I think was mefi 4 and 2007 was mefi 5 and the better cruise was in 2007 and I think mefi 5 controlled it better. I vaguely remember a thread about how it might be possible to upgrade to the mefi 5 ecu and harness but you would have redo all the electrical. The best solution really looks like Dakotas.

                      Again I am no expert on any of this stuff so hopefully one of the guru s will chime in! The 24 ve is a sweet boat and I bet you will be happy with it. I would not let the 2006 speed set stand in your way ( and before Dakotas solution I would have said to avoid it).

                        If the 2006 had a PCM motor, then it could still get a Perfect Pass unit in it. The Utah dealer used pretty much only PCM in that year, but I think most dealers were comfortable with Marine Power.

                        The other concern is that on occasion, the touchpad can fail. I am concerned that Tige will not keep producing them forever, which for me was an absolute no-go. Knowing that there is a viable workaround if the keypad were to fail, and you could not get a replacement is very comforting. I am on the record saying never to buy a 2006, I would not say that now, thanks to some solid homework from Dakota.

                        If the title of this thread were 'best surf boat for 35-40K', then 2005 Tige 24V would have to be at the top of the list.

                          Thanks again guys, I think I am going to pull the trigger this weekend and go get it. Ill post some pictures as soon as I get it.
