    Snap-In Carpet Residue on Floor

The underside of my snap-in carpet is leaving residue on the floor when I take out the carpet to dry after a trip. Pics are below. It's the material on the backside of the carpet (rubber?) that is coming off and sticking to the floor. I can clean it off with a little elbow grease, but it's a huge hassle at the end of every trip.

Is this common? Is there anything that can be done about it? I'm out of warranty now (got the boat in April 2011). The problem actually started before the warranty expired, but I just forgot to do anything about it before that. Bummer.

    Hey Coop,
Have you tried to clean the residue off the floor? Mine would do that and I was able to fix it by wetting it with a water hose and scrubbing it with a broom. It was very easy to clean, but I cleaned mine once a month.

Yes, I can clean it, but it's a hassle (scrubbing it off and then vacuuming up the debris). Seems to me it shouldn't be happening.

Coop - I haven't experienced this before but I did some forum searching and found a threat on Chaparral forum describing the exact same problem. There is a product they used that produced good results. The best part is its cheap and on Amazon. Hope it works out for you.

The thing is, and I agree with coop, it shouldn't be happening period... Question is why is it happening? Or is it just simple deterioration with age and it needs to be replaced, or is it because it was cheap crap to begin with from tige?

You don't have to vacuum it up. Once you get it wetted down just take a broom over it and when it comes up use a water hose to flush it down into the hull. Pull the plug and drive it to a hill and let the water run out. I did that several times and nothing ever got clogged in the bilge pump. That small debris will clear through the bilges areotor style pump also. I don't knownof any real way to keep it from happening other than take your carpet out after each trip. Mine only left the residue after being wet and drying with the carpet in the boat. If it really bothers you ditch the carpet and install the sea deck faux teak. Problem solved and it looks damn good!

I do pull the carpet after each trip. I happens during the trip (the carpet does dry during the trips).

That stuff does dry and leave the residue quickly! I feel your pain and it was one of the reasons why I went with the faux treak from sea deck.
