This one looks to be the best as you can see where your tabs are at. It also has an automatic retract feature. I'd like to figure out how to plug that into my speed so that they will automatically retract over a set speed. No real thought into that yet though.

Unstuck, I have an '03 direct drive, do I have the same hull as you? I don't know what years the changes happened. I know I had a '97 pre2100 and it was considerably more shallow than my current '03 model... If we have the same hull, I'm interested in your project and the possibilities of what it could do on my boat... Sub'd

I'm not sure. Seems like I remember reading that the 03 hull did away with the spray pockets. If that is the case you will be much better off that I am in terms of having room to mount the tabs. The spray pocket removes the whole corner of the transom on both sides. That will force me to mount my tabs way inside. I have no idea how that will affect the wave, but from an earlier post the one boat had them mounted in 7 inches and it didn't seem to matter much. I figure mine will be about the same.
Taps 3 guys, can you tell me which actuator the boats have? Looks to be either the Lenco 101xd or the 102xd. The difference is stroke length. 2.25" or 4.25".

My main concern with adding these on to the older boats is that their engines aren't as powerful as the new ones. You will definitely need an aggressive prop if you put these systems on as you are now surfing with an extra 1,000 to 1,500 lbs that you weren't before. I know that some people were already loading their boats with 2,500 lbs+ for wakeboarding and may have that already. Even with the 440 Raptor, the new RZ2 that I was in with TAPS3 didn't jump out of the hole with full ballast but it was decent. There's a reason these newer boats are coming with 550 supercharged engines!

I saw that picture too. I also thought it was interesting that the actuators mount to the swim deck, not the transom. I think I'll have room to mount mine on the transom regardless of the stroke I use. I really need to know how far below the hull the tabs go when all the way down. I also wonder about the bend down at the end of the tab? Why do that?

Mounting the actuators that way gives them much better leverage than if they were mounted to the transom. The tabs need to be as normal (perpendicular) to the axis of actuator thrust as possible. Imagine mounting them to the transom and the acute angles that would result... it would rob the system of much needed power to adjust those tabs while underway. The way they appear in that photo, they become more perpendicular as they extend, which works well given that the pressure against the tabs increases as they extend.
