Well, I cleaned off all the connections shown above as well as the battery terminals that were not that bad and it seems that the starting issue is now resolved. fires up every time now.

Now that you mention it, I've had a similar problem with 2 older trucks for many years. The symptom is that it works one minute and suddenly there's no power.

It seems the battery lugs need to be cleaned (wire brushed) every year or so -- even when they've been greased previously. I don't know why this happens on my trucks but never my smaller vehicles. Possibly the large amount of starting current somehow encourages a thin film of corrosion on the battery lugs? Anyway, I carry a battery terminal brush in the glovebox now.

PS A knock on the battery leads with a hammer can sometimes restore the connection until next time.

Seriously? Ive been sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out how im gonna locate 5 empty 5 gallon gas cans.

Ok, so its safe to run 2 cans of sea foam in a full tank? (I just happen to have 2 cans since they were buy one get one free) There is a little more then half a tank in there now I figure 25 gallons.

As far as the fuel filter, probably needs to be changed. Stupid question, any idea where it is in a 07 RZ2. Since I have not noticed it I'm guessing maybe its under the floor.

You can fill one 5 gallon can and take it to a recycling place or put it in your car. You could try to add seafoam to the gas and add fresh gas but the biggest unknown is how long that gas has been sitting in the tank. Spokane has a recycling center and you might try to take your boat directly to the recycling place closest to your house and empty the gas tank right into their tanks.

If the previous owner put gas in last year and you believe them, then I would lean toward adding seafoam and fresh gas, but if they don't remember when they last filled it up or you don't get a good vibe that they are telling you the truth, then I would lean toward draining the tank.

too tired and too lazy to read each post word for word. I doubt fuel volatility is the issue. Before draining, remove and drain the filter, catching all that comes out. Put it in a large glass jar and let it settle. While its settling, cut the element open and see whats inside.

Does the gas smell like gas? Fuel thats spoiled, will not smell like gas from the pumps.

Thank you guys for the advice on the fuel. I ended up using a bottle of heat to absorb any water. Topped off the tank with premium and a can of sea foam. Seemed to do the trick. I ran the boat last night for 2.5 hours most of which at idle floating around. boat ran perfectly. I feared shutting off the engine with the starting issue I had last time out and my instincts were right. Got the boat back on the trailer and turned off the engine. Few seconds later I tried to restart it and I get NOTHING. Waited a few minutes and nothing. Battery seems ok and it has no issues powering everything else. I hoked up my charger when I got home and it immediately registered 12.4V. Put the charger into jump start mode just to see if some how it would start and nothing, not even a click. This was about 45 after the engine was turned off so it should be cool but apparently not cold enough to start again.

So the basic symptoms are simple, the boat wont start hot.

The boat will start cold but will not start once its even the slightest bit warmed up. I am leaning towards the starter being the issue but maybe its a sensor some where. I don't think it's the neutral switch because I ave moved the swifter in and out for neutral with the key turned and I don't get anything. I have also cross the neutral switch leads to bypass it and I still get nothing.

Also when I first started it last night I cant say it struggled to start, but it wasn't a crisp fire right up start. It hesitated a little and I'm not sure if that's normal with a marine motor. I don't think it is so that may also be a sign that the starter is going.

Boat work starts fine wen cold, but right after that the starter won't turn. Some one said it could be a sensor but what sensor?

I would replace the starter relay because that's just cheap, then if it repeats the starter...

Nothing, dead as can be. Starts cold but once run for a bit wont start again.

Incident 1;
Out on the lake starts about 5 different times over the course of an hour. Then wont start at all.

Incident 2 was the next day when I went to trouble shoot this;
Turn the key and boom it starts. 1 minute later I turn the key and its dead. Cleaned all the starter and battery leads down to bare metal and it starts 5 times in a row repeatedly just fine.

Incident 3;
Starts up at the launch, run it on the water for 2 hours (never turned it off for fear of this happening and needing to be towed in again). Get it on the trailer and turn it off. Immediately turn the key again and its dead. Let it cooled down for 45 min and still wont crank. Not even a click.

I know there is power to the starter because I can see it on a multi meter when I turn the key.

check the voltages on the relay, make sure you get 12v on the thin trigger wire when trying to start in and then 12v on the lead to the starter motor, nothing on the thin wire means you have an issue in the wiring loom, nothing on the link means it's the relay, if all have 12v it's the starter.

you could try a jump lead directly onto the starter input, probably not recommended though!

Well, it was the starter. I'm far from a mechanic and I was was thankfully able to figure out how to install a new one on Friday night. Pretty easy really and I was able to get back on the water first thing Saturday morning. Fires right up every time without issue.

Unfortunately I still have the trailer rear brakes locking up on me and this problem is driving me nuts. I've come close to being completely stuck multiple times now. I keep a role of nickles in my truck now just so I can back up. I verified that I do have the 5/7 pin adapter for this Dorsey trailer and I have power to the center post on my truck when in reverse. Is there a solenoid on the trailer that should be engaging when I'm in reverse that may be failing?

Yes there is a solenoid on the trailer that is to be powered by the center post. I would check that it is getting power and opening as it should. Try adding 12 volts to it to see if it powers on.

No I didn't. I ended up buying a Back up buddy that woks every time for backing up. Planning on taking it in in the winter fro service.
